Usually the key is either worn, but usually the steering is locked. To unlock the steering, muscle the steering one direction while turning the key with the other hand. Your other concern may be related to the first. For the shifter to be able to shift. The shift lock has to be activated. The way this happens is when the ignition is on and the brake is depressed or if the shift lock override button is depressed and shifted at the same time. Efi fuse blowing
There is a short circuit in the ignition circuit, check the O2 sensor wiring under the truck, a common problem is the wiring touching the hot exhaust pipe.

Main cause of low speed sputtering, especially when cold.
If it is sputtering after warm up and you have ruled out fouled plugs, You could be looking at an E.G.R valve that is stuck open.
If you have a big loss of power, and your air filter' is clean, check the fuel pressure at the fuel injection rail (there is a fitting on the rail just for this purpose) and see that it is not at or within five psi of the lowest allowable pressure. (your local auto parts store can look this up for you) . If the fuel pressure is good, you may a small crack in one of the coils.

What cable to cut for a kill swicht
The Safest cable to cut when installing an allarm or kill switch is the fuel pump because it doesn't hook directly to the computer like the ignition wires. It goes through a relay before going to the pump. You want to put your switch or alarm cut out relay on the wire coming from the fuel pump relay to the fuel pump.

Reset check engine light
Do you know what the stored trouble code is? If you have found that out already, the usual way to reset the light is to remove the ECU main fuse for about 30 sec. Disconnecting the battery will do it too, but that will wipe out the presets and the PIN code entry in your radio as well. Very inconvenient that.
