If it shows no sign of overheating as well (other causes then), it is likely that the coolant temp sender unit has failed

There are many possible causes but first examine the EFI main relay mount in fuse block 1 under the hood. The mounting base of the relay is prone to breakage in old Camrys. You can tell if this is the cause because the check engine indicator lamp on the instrument cluster will not light when you turn on the ignition.

-Buy a repair manual at auto parts store.
* You might hook up all back up light wire to head light wire.
That's why it's on when you turn on .

Good luck.

why not post symtoms? is cab heater blower dead on HIGH??????
there are 5 fuses, just related to heat.
the blower relay is in the engine bay box 1 , far end marked HTR.

on high the relay coil 1 and blower pin 1 are grounded
the relay closes, if and only if the 10 amp heater fuse is good.
the relay then outputs 12v to blower in 2 and the motor RUNS.
that is it.
alldata.com read there.
or buy FSM for full facts. and schematics.

Check the distributor cap, it may have oil in it from a leak, or possibly bad rotor.
2 check the coil

That will be a V6. The water pump is behind the timing belt, which has to be loosened and pushed aside. You may as well replace the belt as well. See here p320

This is for the 1MZ alloy engine. If you have the 3VZ iron block engine, post an email address and and I'll send you that info.

PO171 OBD2 Code basically this means that an oxygen sensor in bank 1 has detected a lean condition (too much oxygen in the exhaust). On V6/V8/V10 engines, Bank 1 is the side of the engine that has cylinder #1. The P0171 is one of the more common trouble codes.

his code is triggered by the first downstream (front) O2 sensor. The sensor provides a reading of the air:fuel ratio leaving the engine's cylinders, and the vehicles powertrain/engine control module (PCM/ECM) uses that reading and adjusts to keep the engine running at that optimum ratio of 14.7:1. If something is not right and the PCM cannot maintain the 14.7:1 ratio, but rather there is too much air, it triggers this code.

needs pressure tested at a shop that can test for good operating servo seals for reverse clutch drum pack. Run a diagnostic for transmission trouble codes for which sensor or shift actuator will need replacing for overdrive. Also, check to see if the button does turn overdrive on and off.

how is the engine oil ? when was it last changed as old oil is less effective , try an oil and filter change , but a hard rattle as you describe it may be something ,not more serious , but maybe a loose drive belt or some thing that when engine revs increase's it becomes noticable though is still there ,if oil change makes no difference have a good listen around engine also underneath to try to narrow down location , hope this helps keep me posted if you wish
