Head lights work? at same time? the switch is bad. or the bulbs are bad. the A/T car (auto not stick) the PRNDL prindle switch does this. did you try wiggle the lever in REV. with person 2 behind you watching. did the lamps flash,? bingo bad PRNDL. with a Volt meter, any (1920 to now) you check the voltage at the PRNDL, , 12v in , and 0v out , in reverse is bad switch. 1-10v out is a short in the line, (less that 11volts is a short) 12v out is good, your lamps are bad, unplugged . or cut. top hard fail here is some hack job (uhaul infamous) cut the wires all up and used wire nuts (illegal on cars) an fails hard.
