he, sounds noobish. to me.
a real
ASE pro mech, would do tests and know, what is failing
find a real mech. for sure.
black smoke (fuel) or white smoke (oil or steam,)? steam is normal
if it goes away.
All 1992 cars (USA) are hard to diagnose and fix in USA
because it has EFI and no OBD2 scanners, that work.
on OLD EFI your mech, must be pro level,. the persons that
uses meters to check all sensors. 1 by 1.
But why not do this first:
I say USA because every country has diffr. laws regarding smog
and that DICTATES what EFI system you have, and what scan tools work
or not. so not stated country , puts me at a loss........
but no matter 92 is old and dumb tech.
- Check all fuses. (and reseat all EFI fuses, for sure)
- key on, no start , is the CEL glowing, (it must or ecu is dead)
- you start engine the CEL lamp most go out and stay out.
- IF the CEL comes on, running, then insert a paper clip to the CHECK connector and READ out the flash codes now. the flash codes tell you what failed. skipping this on all cars up to 1996 is crazy, do it now. why Ignore the ECU trying to tell you facts?????
- Ok CEL is on key on, and then out running we proceed.
- The next check i do after a full 60k mile tune up is check for flooding and misfire, or bogging , this must be discover now.
- what is doing,, bad spark, or bad fueling,
- I check fuel pressure next , 60psi will flood any old engine like this forever, if pressure is below 28psi the engine will starve. bogging.
your engine died in reverse. (a/t tranny right?)
but fast foot keeped it alive.
gee, is the ECU in limphome mode, where idle controls are DEAD.
if the CEL glows running, there are even odds its in limphome
post the DTC error codes and bingo, limphome for many.
all this is in the FSM.
The ECU when its sensors are all working, will infact
open the ISC valve to prevent ANY stall.
if it bogs the ISC fails.
if it misfires badly , the ISC fails
ISC , idle speed control system. (a servo slave of ECU).
if the EGR valve sticks open, the ISC will fail.
if the ECU goes to limphome mode (bad sensors) ISC fails.
so blaming the ECU is last. for ALL CARS.
and is the sign of a noobish mech.
in fact as all FSM stated.
never condemn any ECU util all sensor and acutators are checked first.
waring lots of young mech never seen any OBD1 car.
so , find an old guy, they know!!!!
