the diagnostics plug should be under the hood on the passenger side with a plastic cover on it that says DIAGNOSTIC.A complete sevice manual should have a listing in it of codes.

Check the high beam relay in the under hood fuse / relay box . Relay K37 .Check for B+ voltage at fuse F18 10amp & F17 10amp . These are for the high beams .

the pump relay is controlled by the fuel pressure regulator it cuts power to the relay when fuel pressure is maintained check ti for correct operation

Take it to a shop that has an OBD1 scanner. The parts stores only have scanners that check 1996 and newer OBD2 systems. You can access flash codes but you will need to purchase a manual or find the procedure online. It involves jumping a couple of connectors at a diagnostic box on the right engine fender well.

what country, there are many , 4 cyl or v6 engine? Gas or Diesel.? 1986 very old iron' 2speed A/T or 3speed, they made both. that year. what makes you think any 1986 has a brain,? a TCM the TCM is on newer cars. so there is no scan tool or blink ports on old Transmissions.... sorry. ill look yours up at alldata.com to be sure..' if you look at side of tranny and the part number dont end in "E" its not electronic shifted, (side plate on tranny) why not post symptoms.? this tranny is 100% mechancial. with Governor and all.. there is no TCM to shift by speed here.

set pedal to 1/2 play. or are you asking how at the hands level? you unjam the jam nut, and turn the adjuster, set play and set jam back. its in the FSM or at alldata.com the FSM shows you and the zero knowledge level, that is it shows you the nut and says, turn this , then.... in school you learn all this and never needs being said. called BASICS. are you asking basics. ? please say so... (inlcudes safety !!!!!) ever adjust bicycle brakes. (same deal , a a cable and same deal the mandatory play)

maybe your alternator is weakening check battery maybe that has defaulted causing your the car to run off your battery-hope that helps..

I would first start with the coil, distributor cap, rotor, spark plugs, and the spark plug wires. If that doesn't fix the problem, I would then change the fuel pump (located in the gas tank) and the fuel pump relay switch (located in the kick panel on the driver's side). If that still does not fix the problem, I would change out the Air Flow Sensor (located on top of the air filter box), and the Fuel Sensor (located where the air filter tube attaches to the intake manifold).
