I have just had the same problem this morning for the first time and I suspect it is just bad gas. We have had problems with the check engine light in our camaro whenever we bought hi test at the Mobile gas station closest to our home. I would not be surprised if this same gas station is now having water problems with their regular gas which is what we put in our 4runner. Try STP gas treatment first, which is what I am going to do now. When I used this approach with my camaro, the light went out within a few days. Technically, a sensor might have been damaged, but my thinking is that if that sensor is dead, then my fuel/air mixture will get bad enough to notice pretty quick. The TRAC off and VSC off are just extra lights that go on, whenever the check engine light comes on. I'll let you know how it goes.

the first thing to do is remove the plastic skirt around rhe seat,to do this remove the seat movement knobs by prying them off with screwdriver,gental steady pressure works,then remove the screw in the rear( back seat compartment),three screws at seat switches and the side skirt will pull out (four tabs are connected to the mating plastic pieces,pull outtoward you). two screws hold the front skirt on these are tough to get to they are at an angle. with this skirt removed you can get to the motor,
three screws remove the the motor (Isuggest unplugging motor,small connector) on each end of shaft are retaining bushings rotate them toward the back and they will disengage,you can now pick up the motor and the the shafts will come out with it.these shafts disengage from the motor and should be kept seperate (greasey)
I used a R2 square drive bit (the driver used to install deck screws) to find which screwdrive is jammed, I adjusted the other one to its front stop with square driver bit the worked the jammed one back and forth mostly toward the rear and it worked free.
I adjusted this one to the front stop and reassembled the motor,shaft(make shure to snap retaining bushing in place)reconnect motor connector,all plastic skirts AND NEVER ALLOW THE SEAT TO TRAVEL TO ITS FRONT STOP AGAIN. (4HRS)

Morning White Smoke At Start-up (2003 4cyl Camry)

Ok folks, I have found 2 posts listing this same problem on FixYa and have found other references to this problem elsewhere on the net. The smoke is whitish, it occurs only after sitting several hours overnight winter and summer, it lasts 3-10 seconds only, the dip stick shows no oil use. It began a year ago and hasn't changed. I've heard/read every solution for the problem but it is always "maybe this and maybe that", water, oil, seals, condensation, whatever. I don't believe my Toyota dealer service mgr who says it is caused by "leftover unused fuel vapor and condensation" and "that there is nothing wrong with it"! I asked him, if that's true, why didn't it do it when it was new!! (It began just before my 50k warranty was out.) I wrote the Toyota regional service manager, Jimmy Seabaugh, and did not get a reply. Something Specific Is Causing This and Someone Somewhere Has Got It Figured Out! Where do I go to find that person?

This problem is common but often over looked. Moisture vapor is a grayish white color but it dissipates very quickly. Smoke that is grayish white is caused specifically from burning oil. The problem you have is a small seal called a valve seal. It is very common in cars that sit a fair amount of the time. The seal gradually starts to leak and allow tiny drops of oil to drip into the combustion chamber. When the engine is started then it smokes until the oil is burned. Due to the amount of time that your car smokes after start tells me that the leak is very small. That is why there is no oil consumption. This is not going to harm the car unless it becomes very bad and then the only thing that would happen is more smoke and fouled plugs. You can start using a heavier weight oil and add an oil treatment to the oil when you have it changed. This may evin stop it all together. Hope this answered your question. Please rate this solution if you think it has helped. Good luck and thanks cj2176.

2003 Camry won't stay idling after I changed battery

My 2003 3.0 V6 Camry won't stay idling. I just changed the battery because the old one ws shot. Now it starts up great and dies out. I can drive it but when i come to a stop or turn a corner slow it stalls. It starts back up and will run in park with my foot on the gas.When i take my foot off it dies out. It was running fine before that and there's no check engine light on. I checked the ETCS fuse and its not blown. Does anyone have any ideas?

This is extremely common :)

With time your throttle body gets gummed up with oily residue from the PCV system. As this happens, the computer adapts to the restriction it causes in the throttle body.
When you unhook the battery, these learned values are lost and the default settings for idle control are used. Unfortunately the default settings are no longer sufficient to keep the idle correct with it all gummed up.

Take your intake hoses off the throttle bodies and clean the insides (open the throttle plates for better access) with a rag and some brake parts cleaner or throttle plate cleaner, available from your local parts store.

Reassemble and start the car, your idle problems should be gone immediately.

It is the Magmetic clutch relay for your A/C - if your AC light is blinking and you have no AC change this relay - common problem in this model - to test the relay switch it with one of the other relays next to it and try the AC (the relays are ina black box on the drivers side under the hood behind the battery)

P0442 OBD-II Trouble Code - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (small leak)

What does that mean?
This indicates a fuel vapor leak in the EVAP control system. It means a very small leak has been detected. In fact, the leak can be from a hole as small as 0.04" in diameter. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.

Symptoms
You likely won't notice any drivability problems.

Causes
A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened:
* A loose or improperly affixed gas cap
* A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand)
* A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube
* Other small leak in EVAP system
* Faulty vent o-ring seal

Possible Solutions
With a P0442, the most common repair is to:
* Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back.
* Otherwise, replace the gas cap, or
* Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses

Good luck (remember rated this help).
