I am not very handy
no, you're not being foolish. in this economy many "first time mechanics" are forced to do what they normally would pay someone else to do. it's not a difficult job but there are some things you will need to know. first, you will need a 3/8 drive ratchet and a spark plug socket. spark plug sockets are equipped with a special rubber insert to keep the plug from breaking during removal and installation. there are two main sizes of socket, 5/8 and 13/16. when you purchase your new plugs, the store clerk will be able to tell you the proper size of socket to use. while you're at the store, they sell small packets of anti-seize lubricant. you will want to put a small amount of this lubricant on the threads of the new plugs to keep them from seizing up. when removing the plug wires from the plugs, grip them by the boot and not by the actual wire, as this could damage the wire. simply grip the boot and pull in a slight "wiggling" motion and they should pop off. make sure you keep the wires in order. ( i recommened doing one plug at a time to keep them in order) after removal of old plugs, hand tighten new plugs, then tighten with ratchet. DO NOT overtighten! snug is good enough. put a small dab of petroleum jelly on your pinky finger and lubricate the opening of the spark plug wire boot. this will help ensure a secure fit at the end of the plug. you will know when the wire is on tight because you will feel or hear a "click" or "pop". that's all there is to it. good luck!
I bought the bulb for
For 2001 Toyota Avalon 3.0L EFI DOHC 6cyl check this procedure...
1.- Open the hood and prop it up to gain access to the headlight.
2.- Remove the bolts holding the headlight to the vehicle body, using a ratchet. There will be three bolts around the perimeter of the headlight.
3.- Pull the headlight out with moderate force and detach the headlight bulb wiring.
4.- Set the new headlight in place. Before pushing it all the way into the headlight socket, attach the headlight's wiring connectors.
5.- Push the new headlight completely in its socket and tighten the three bolts to hold it in place.
6.- Test the headlights to see whether they are working properly. If everything is fine, then close the hood. If the headlights aren't functioning, then double-check the connectors and make sure they are tight.
I hope this helps.
Is15A fuse the number for

2002 Avalon ... Idled way
How many miles are on the vehicle? Off the bat this sounds like an IAC fault(Idle air control valve). I would consider replacing that. I am assuming the vehicle has had its proper maintenance i.e. tuneups etc. Make sure the battery terminals are clean as well but most likely it sounds like the IAC.

Dash lights show car with back lights on what does
Hello. Welcome to FixYa. Please allow me to assist you.
That icon is telling you that one of your taillamp or your brake light bulbs is burnt out. All you need to do is turn on the parking lights, and check to see if they all work. Then, have someone press the brakes whilst you observe the operation of the brake lights; also note to see if the brake light in the back window is working. Once you replace the burnt out bulb, the icon will reset itself, and will stay out.
Thanks for choosing FixYa for assistance today. If my advice helps you out, a 4-thumb rating would be greatly appreciated.
For last 3 days, had
not sure I am following your post but it sounds like you are having problems with the key in the ignition?
if this is true there it has nothing to do with your key fob
instead, the inability to remove the key from the ignition is because the tumbler is failing or failed
additional causes can be due to failing shift lock actuator
If however, you mean the door, then that is purely a lock solenoid concern, but I doubt that is why you walked home

No water in radiator, smoke in vents
Doesn't sound good. I think you might have cooked the engine. But just in case, get some coolant back in there of some kind, water just for the test, and see if you can get it running again, check the exhaust pipe for steam. The check the oil for water and the water for oil floating on the top. If you have any of these signs, the head gasket has blown out and needs to be fixed, You can get it to a radiator shop for a compression check, will tell you everything. Even how much to fix it. But only if it is not seized up. Then, you will need a new motor or a new car. Hope this helps.
Trunk-open button on dash doesn't work
Hi,
The main problem will be one of 3 things:
1 The fuse for th power switch is blowen and may need to be replaced.
2 The switch/button is faulty.
3 The solenoid in the boot which unlocks the latch in the boot is faulty.
On some of these models they actually had 2 boot switchs, one is in the passengers glove box.
If this is the only electrical fault and nothing else has stopped working then chances are the switch is faulty and you will need to get it replaced.
Hope this helps, please let me know how you get on, and if you need further information.
Thanks
Jason
2006 toyta avalon trunk release button on dash
Hello. Your trunk release system depends upon the button on the dash, and the release mechanism built into the trunk latch with the alternate method of release being the remote button. Since your trunk will not release from the dash or from the remote button the problem is most likely with the actual release mechanism built into the trunk latch. Take a close look at that mechanism as sometimes the thin piece of metal which is one component gets bent and will work again if you merely straighten it out. If that does not fix the problem then consider changing the release mechanism. J.
How do you calibrate the sensor on the drivers
Open both doors, actuate the windows up and down two times, close the dfoors, turn off the ignition, and they should be reset. Let me know if this works, or not. I will still be here. Thank you.
I am try to replace the serpintine belt for the power steering on
This answer is for a 2003 Toyota Camry listed by the Asker under the 2001 Toyota Avalon Category
Click on the following direct
Link. It has the Serpentine Belt Diagram.
Standard Rules to Removal the Serpentine Belt with a Tensioner:
1. Find the Tensioner(s). (See Diagrams on Link)
2. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool, Or Wrench OR Ratchet, Rotate/Move the Tensioner USING THE AVAILABLE NUT (on the Pulley or Arm Base) OR the OPENING (3/8ths or 1/2 inch square opening) rotating the Tensioner Pulley/Arm - moving it away from contact with the belt and towards the area where the belt is not in contact with the Tensioner Pulley. The Tensioner is spring loaded, and is hard to rotate/move.
3. Remove the loosened belt off one of the other more easily accessed Pulleys.
4. DO NOT quickly release the Tensioner, but gently allow the Tensioner to rest in its closed position.
Standard Rules for Installing the Serpentine Belt with Tensioners:
a. Pick a Pulley that is most easily accessed. This will usually be on top. This will be the last Pulley that the belt will go on.
b. Using the Diagram: Install the new Serpentine Belt on the remainder of the Pulleys....over, under, left right.
c. Using a Serpentine Belt Tensioner Tool or Wrench or Ratchet Tool: Rotate/Move the Tensioner Pulley/Arm "away" from Belt contact area on the Tensioner. This spring is pretty hard and with a new belt, it will be even harder to install. Rotate/Move this to as-close to the maximum allowed inorder to have enough slack in the belt to get it up and over the last pulley.
d. Using your other hand - Pull the Belt up and over the Last remaining Pulley.
e. Before releasing the pressure on the Tensioner, visually inspect the remainder Pulleys and the Belts' Positioning on them
