1998 camry oil smells like fuel, 260,000 miles. out runs strong, Just replaced the valve gaskets, can anyone help me figure out what's wrong?
These engines do have chronic oil leaks onto the exhaust, hence the burning smell. When cam cover gaskets are replaced it is best to use the genuine Toyota parts, they seem to have some quality which lasts better.Other places which leak are the distributor shaft o-ring seal, and crankshaft nose seal, behind the timing belt sprocket. Hi, my first recommendation would be to take the plugs out and visually inspect each one and check to make sure they are properly gapped, if they look fouled at all i would replace them without hesitation. try throwing a set of NGK plugs in the car to fix the misfires. other than that you may want to look at the wires. good luck joe
