are the vvts interchangable from your old engine to new or with wiring diagram can find out why the extra wire i think 1 is for the ecm signal and 2 is for reference and 3 is a ground but not sure you need diagram or replace the head assmbly with old to new its a last hope but check for interchange first

Suggest that the engine was overloaded during the incline with the float. At low speeds the cooling is only through the electric fans at the radiator.
