97 grand jeep cherokee, security system self
you have two options: 1 keep the system working properly. In this option all you need to do is replace the key lock cylinder (it contains both the cylinder and electrical contacts in one piece). 2 disable permamently the system, to do thay you locate the violet/yellow wire coming through the hinge rubber hose in the driver door, peel say about half an inche use a splice connector to ground a piece of wirte from there, next cover it with isolator tape and you are all done.

How do you change the transmission filter in a
If you have a pan drain plug, drain the pan. If not, remove all bolts around it's perimeter, leaving two on one edge loose but not removed. Use a large catch pan or I've seen some people use a garbage pail cover over a smaller pan with holes drilled in the center of the cover so it drains.
Remove the filter, making note of the position of the filter and screw length (if any screws are longer or shorter they must go back in the same holes)
Remove ALL gasket material from the pan and rail, clean the pan and magnet.
Reverse process to assemble. Pan bolt torque is around 14 inch pounds.
You don't need a torque wrench if you use a 1/4 inch ratchet and do not pull down hard when tightening. DO NOT crush the gasket so tight it bulges out. Install all bolts by hand before tightening, tighten in a cross pattern, not around in a circle. Re fill with the proper fluid, run the engine till warm, check level, check for leaks. Make a short test drive, re-check level and again for leaks. If any leaks, tighten the bolt closest to the leak and also the two on either side of that one.

My P reg Jeep Cherokee 2.5 td is failing to get to
Hi Allyson
I`m having the same problem with my p reg cherokee 2.5td!!! After much time and reaearch, there are several things to check. Firstly, the MAF sensor might be faulty. This is found in the air inlet pipe from the air filter box. Second, have the No1 injector ckecked. This might be breaking down. Thirdly, have the turbo intercooler pipes checked for leakage. If there is a small hole, it will be difficult to find so you`ll need the system to be pressure checked.
Hope this helps.

Darrell

I am having the same problem Darrel with my 98 jeep cheeroke sport, from the research i have done so far, It seems to be a problem with the fuel pump/filer, or thenFuel pump relay control circuit, as the problem seems to only occur every once in a while, i am assuming it is a loose connection in the relay, as jeeps tend to be abused, thourh off road conditions. hope this helps

Fuses are non-directional so it does not matter which way it was installed. Looking at a relay from the outside tells you nothing about what's going on inside of it. I'm not positive on yours but I'm pretty sure that fan relay for the a/c is different than the one that runs it normally. And, be aware that the fan will go on and off on demand from the computer. Temp sender sends signal to the computer which sends a ground signal to the relay which then turns fan on.

If its the 2.5TD it is located in the interior kick panel fuse panel. Location is cavity No 25,15amp,light blue in colour. It controls ABS,climate controls, cooling fan and brake switch. If it is the fuse for the high mounted brake light, the fuse is in the engine compartment in the electrical power distribution centre. Cavity No15. 15amp,blue in colour.

Vibration in front suspension while braking on
If you only feel the vibration while braking it is most likely in the brake system. Either your front rotors are rusted, pitted or out of round or your rear drums or rotors are. By rule you can usually machine them once, but not always depending on their condition.

I have a 1997 Jeep
I would check the pick up coil in the distributor.
- Make sure that the ignition is OFF , remove the distributor cap and turn the engine over by hand.
- Verify that the distributor shaft turns. If the distributor shaft does not turn, the engine must be checked for proper mechanical operation.
- Backprobe with a high impedance ohmmeter between the CMP sensor connector middle terminal and battery ground.
- Verify that the resistance is less than 5 ohms. If the resistance is not as specified, repair or replace the wiring as necessary and continue the test.
- With the ignition ON and the engine OFF , backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter between the sensor connector middle terminal and either of the end terminals.
- Verify that a 5 volt or greater signal is present at one of the two terminals. If not as specified, repair or replace the wiring as necessary and continue the test.
- With the ignition ON and the engine OFF , backprobe with a high impedance voltmeter between the sensor connector middle terminal and the end terminal that did not have the 5 volt or greater signal.
- Crank the engine by hand and verify that the voltage reading alternates between 0.0 or 5.0 volts.
- Install the distributor cap and crank the engine with starter. Verify that the voltage reading is 2.5 volts (averaging voltmeters only).
- If the voltage readings are not as specified, the sensor may be faulty.
Also check the fuses, if you haven't done that. I would also test the resistance values on the ignition coil. The functions of the ignition control module are performed by the Electronic Control Unit (ECU), also known as the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

Where can i find a fuse panal diagram for a 1997
generally found on the underside of "fusebox" cover. i don't know whether you mean the junction block. (which is located just aft of the battery). or the fuse block which i think is on the edge of the dashboard where the driver's door touches the dash. (if you don't know where to look you'll often times overlook it) hope this helps
