The first thing any Tech would do is check the PCM (computer) for a fault code stored in memory. This requires a code reader and is not an expensive tool, but it is need and very useful in diagnostics for almost all vehicles dated from 1995 and up. Most auto stores will perform this task free of charge. I could keep throwing guess's at you, but from a diagnostic stand point, code read is paramount. How many miles are on the engine and what recent maintenance was done?

My gas gauge does not
The gas tank has nothing to do with the gauge. The fuel pump float could be stuck or the slide could have been bent when the pump was put back in. Also, the electrical connector could be unplugged or sot fully connected. This happens when someone pulls the wire instead of the plug.

Replaced lightswitch on 96 Jeep Cherokee. When I
are we talking blows a fuse or just turns off... if it just turns off then you might check your wires. you may have put the parking lights on the dash lights and not the parking lights connector....

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport 2WD St8 6. 250,000 mi,
replace the power steering pump, the hoses are an odd size and you have to buy a wrench for it, the transmission you can change the gasket and filter and replace the fluids,, probably the engine is dripping from the rear main bearing seal, this is best left to someone who knows what they are doing.

Where are freeze plugs located on 1996 jeep
Is it coming from the top, Can you see? Did the car freeze or overheat lately? If not, it is not a freeze plug. It is a coolant line running to the rear of the engine, it has an O-ring gasket that has gone, It is real easy to fix, but you have to take the intake off to get to it. Buy the gasket kit, the seals/O-rings are off the shelf sizes, nothing special, and you will need a schematic of the engine so you can see where you are going. Check it out.

1996 Jeep Cherokee Sport, 4 cyl, check engine
The code refers to the catalytic converter efficiency. It can be a plugged converter. leaking exhaust, vacuum leak, fuel pressure problem, or even low compression. You really need to have the ECU read with a scanner that will give you the POXXXX code instead of the 2 digit code. This will help diagnosis the problem much better.

First starting in the morning the 1996 jeep
Check out your cold start choke. It is designed to cause your fuel mixture to run "rich" until it warms up. It is basically a heat sensitive coil that reacts to heat from the exhaust manifold.
