Headlight main beam not working

Strange headlamp problems on Saabs can often be attributed to a failing Headlamp relay. Here are a few common situations:
Issue1 - Headlamp switch will work backwards: Turn on the switch and theheadlights go off and turn off the switch and the headlights will goon.
Issue 2 - High beams will disappear. You will have nohighbeams. Be sure to check the headlight bulbs PRIOR to ordering therelay. Remember however that it is possible for both high beams burn out at the same time
Issue3 - High beams will not work only the low beams will.
Issue 4 - A single bulb setting (low or high) on either side will not work and bulb replacement will fix it.
You can sometimesfix these issues by removing the relay, taking off the cover andresoldering the connections on the relay bottom. To perform this repair, go to my illustrated tutorial at customsaab.com.
In some cases youwill have to replace the relay to effect a long term cure. The aftermarket replacement can be had at Eeuroparts.com for about $60.00:

Oil in brake booster

The vacuum is created via a mechanical pump driven from the cam, Or a separate, electrical pump. The only liquid I have ever found in any servo (booster) is brake fluid from a leaking master cylinder. If the vacuum is low/absent, due to a faulty cam driven vacuum pump, and crankcase pressure rises, along with a faulty one-way valve in the vacuum plumbing, it's possible the oil could be forced into the servo housing, and operating the brakes would help it happen as the servo could act as a pump itself and draw oil from the engine. Found some diagrams:http://www.jimellissaabparts.com/showAssembly.aspx?ukey_assembly=408206&ukey_make=1032&modelYear=1999&ukey_model=14675http://www.eeuroparts.com/Cars/SAAB/41962012/2009-9-5-Aero-Wagon-2-3L-4-Cyl-16-Valve-Turbo/1019/Front-Brakes-Hydraulics/What colour is the oil?

Need to reset the anti-theft system

I don't know your vehicle but each vehicle with an anti-theft is different. Some you have to put the door key into the drivers door and turn. Some you need to put the key in the front passenger door and turn. Some you put the key in the ignition. Try each one until it is reset.

Theft Alarm goes off every 60 seconds

In order to disarm the alarm system, you need a tech 2 computer (usually Saab indy repair shops or Saab dealers only will have this very expensive computer and the flash cards needed) in order to change the programming in the TWICE theft alarm computer so the vehicle thinks it is not equipped with an alarm system. Two other more expensive options are replacing the entire module, or cutting the module open and replacing the internal batteries.

Saab 9-5 Aero Wagon 2000 wont restart when warm or after running

I have a 1999 Saab 9-5. I had a similiar problem. The car would always run cold. It would get hot and the engine would quit. It could be anywhere. One mile from start to 50 miles from start. Once it cooled down it would re-start but the cool down time was always different. Only difference for me was my car would crank, just not run. Replaced the crank position sensor ($60), no more problems! Good luck!
