2006 Hummer H3 - Page 3 Questions & Answers
I would like to change the leather part to my automatic Shift Boot I just purchase for my H3 HUMMER 2006 Model, I just need to know how to remove the top shift knob first. Help?
This can be one of those jobs that isn't hard but it's a pain in the backside! I would suggest chocking the wheels and use the handbrake as you may need to take it out of Park to do it. The leather Gaiter is fitted as part of the centre console.
Lift the lid on the centre store box, (where your elbow rests when your driving). On the top edge, level with the latch there should be access to a screw pointing down to the floor. Remove it. The centre panel, (with the cup holders in it), should lift up, screw end first. You might need to put the vehicle in Drive to get enough clearance. This should give you enough access to the underside of the gaiter. There is a small screw holding the shifter grip in place. Remove it and the gaiter and centre console should lift off. The shifter grip might be tight but should 'wriggle' off.
The gaiter should be easier to remove once all this is done.

Have you tried to jump start the vehicle ,low voltage ? Loose battery connection's . Turn on the headlamps ,are they bright ,seam normal ? If headlamps are bright suggest you have it taken to a qualified repair shop that has a factory or professional scanner to hook up to the vehicle . Check for DTC'S - diagnostic trouble code's . The electronic's on your vehicle are complex , 10-15 electronic control module's ,serial data communication network for the control module's . Ignition switch is a low voltage input to the BCM - body control module .
Moving the ignition switch to the START position signals the body control module (BCM) that engine crank has been requested. The BCM verifies that theft is not active and sends a serial data message to the powertrain control module (PCM) requesting engine start. The BCM also energizes the RUN/CRANK RELAY. When the RUN/CRANK RELAY switch side closes, and the vehicle is in Park/Neutral or with the clutch fully depressed, if equipped, supply voltage is applied to the PCM CNTRL relay coil. The PCM verifies the transmission is in Park/Neutral or if the clutch is fully depressed, if equipped. The PCM will then ground the control circuit of the PCM CNTRL relay, closing the switch suppling voltage to the starter solenoid. On some vehicles the starter will continue to crank the engine with the key released until it starts, the crank command has timed out to prevent excessive heat build up in the starter circuitry or the PCM receives an engine run flag.
My 2006 Hummer H3 is
Might have got some bad gas, but get the computer scanned at your local parts store and post the trouble code here for more help.
Heating up
This may be normal, depending on the thermostat installed. They make optional thermostats of various temps. You can probably get a 190 degree thermostat. It will probably not have a significant effect on the engine operation, but may give you some peace of mind.
Transmission go to netural at 20mph
I would take it to the nearest GM dealership and talk with them about fixing it. On Star doesn't know squat about GM warranty policies. As a customer you can take it to any GM dealer and have it serviced. The reason I know this is I spent 37 years working for GM and was a Senior Supplier Quality Engineer when I retired out of Headquarters for Truck and Bus Div. Now if the dealership you take it to doesn't have the talent to fix it you may have to take somewhere they do have the talent to repair it. I am not attempting to brag here it just my way of saying I know the difference.
