What causes clattering or clicking sound when you

Sounds like lack of lubrication on the camshaft, especially if the sound goes away after 10 sec. or so.
If you are on a cold climate, shift to a lighter oil weight, such as 5W-30. Other option is to use commonly available oil superlubricants/ additives. Origin of problem is that oil gets drained down during the night, camshaft gets dried up, and on first start in the morning, oil pump works hard to pump the heavy oil to the top of the engine. On hotter climates, some oil stays attached to the camshaft and valve lifters.

I need to find schematics or photos of 4.6L DOHC

38b8d40.gif

Fig. Replacement

- Turn off your air suspension with the switch in the trunk if your car has air suspension.
- Turn your wheels all the way to the left for better access.
- Drain the coolant. Use a fairly large bucket or tub as the coolant hits the air dam and spreads out.
- Jackthe car up at the left front jack pad. Jack it up until the left fronttire is off the ground about 4 inches.
- Place a jack stand at the frame under the leftfront door for safety.
- Removethe oil filter. You do not have to remove the lower radiator hose to dothis, it will allow the adapter to move far enough out to be able toremove the old gasket and slip in the new one. (The gasket is similarto a head gasket in that it is rigid and will not break when you removeit. It almost falls out. I do not think it could break and leave partstill in position. Also you have a very good view into the area and youcan inspect both surfaces without removing the radiator hose.) There are four bolts holding the adapter to the block. You canreach them with a ratchet and two 6 inch extensions. You do not need auniversal joint on the extension.
- Remove the old gasket.
- Slidethe new one in and start the bolts. Do not tighten them until all arestarted so that the gasket is seated right. When you tighten the boltsalternate between them to avoid overstressing the oil filter adapterand possibly cracking the casting.
- Re-install the filter.

Note: this might be a good time to replace the oil and filter tominimize the risk of contaminants.

- Pour the coolant back in.
- Start the car and check for leaks. Remove the jack stand and jack.

You're done; hope helped.

HOW DO CHANGE A FUEL PUMP ON A 93 LINCOLN MARK 8

Removal & Installation See fuel pump under fuel tank in this section.

CAUTION Fuel injection systems remain under pressure, even after the engine has been turned OFF. The fuel system pressure must be relieved before disconnecting any fuel lines. Failure to do so may result in fire and/or personal injury.

  1. If equipped with air suspension, the air suspension switch, located on a side panel of the trunk compartment, must be turned to the OFF position before raising the vehicle.
  2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  3. Relieve fuel system pressure using the recommended procedure.
  4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  5. Remove the fuel tank from the vehicle and place on a suitable work bench.
  6. Remove any dirt that has accumulated around the fuel pump retaining flange so it will not enter the tank during pump removal and installation.
  7. On 1988–94 models, turn the fuel pump locking ring counterclockwise and remove the locking ring.
  8. On 1995–00 models, remove the retaining bolts around the perimeter of the fuel pump module.
  9. Remove the fuel pump/sending unit assembly. Remove and discard the seal ring.
To install:
  1. Clean the fuel pump mounting flange, fuel tank mounting surface and seal ring groove.
  2. Apply a light coating of grease on a new seal ring to hold it in place during assembly and install it in the seal ring groove.
  3. Install the fuel pump/sending unit assembly carefully to ensure the filter is not damaged. Make sure the locating keys are in the keyways and the seal ring remains in the groove.
  4. Hold the pump assembly in place and install the locking ring finger-tight. Make sure all the locking tabs are under the tank lock ring tabs.
  5. Rotate the locking ring clockwise until the ring is against the stops.
  6. Install the fuel tank into the vehicle.
  7. Lower the vehicle.
  8. If equipped with air suspension, turn the air suspension switch to the ON position.
  9. Add a minimum of 10 gallons of fuel to the tank and check for leaks.
  10. Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  11. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position several times to pressurize the fuel system. Check for fuel leaks and correct as necessary.
  12. Start the engine and check for leaks.
  13. Road test the vehicle and check for proper operation.

Spradic problem

Try to have the mechanic look for "downshift kickdown" service info. When you are driving and the cars computer senses a load that is beyond the limit of the present gear, the car will downshift into a lower gear to match the load.
The inbetween gear time is when the RPM rises because the gears want to change and the transmission has not caught up with the engine.
Some of this can be adjusted with the hydraulic pressure in the transmission. The torque converter supplies the pressure and the rebuilt trans needs to be matched with the torque converter.
Go back to the trans shop.

HI, I WANT TO BUY A LINCOLN MARK 8, '93. BUT THIS

Yes, provided you maintain a nominal speed and go armed with Containers of Power Steering, or AutomaticTransmission Fluid. Stop occassionally to TOP UP or check the P/S FLUID LEVEL....This is CRITICAL.
Before you start out, TOP UP, put a piece of cardboard on the ground under the area of the leak, and run the engine. This will give you an estimate of the RATE of LOSS to the System.
CAUTION!!!. Running the system to Empty, will be CATASTROPHIC to the P/S PUMP, and a 2nd Mortgage to effect repairs.
Best of luck in your endevours.

GIVE IT GAS, IT PULLS TO RIGHT ---STEP ON BRAKE ,

Front end pull when braking sounds like a brake problem. The rear problem is the large bushings on the trailing arm suspension. The car should coast more straight when there is no torque and then pull when there is torque. The rear axle is cocking to one side under load.

What would be the best choice for replacing the

I replaced the TPS on a 93 and a 94 with one from Auto Zone and both worked perfectly. It is always best while you have the throttle body off to go ahead and change your "IAC"Idle Air Control Valve and Auto Zone also has them. They run around $50 to $55 but if it has never been changed, you will be changing it, if you keep the car. The IAC can stick and will stick with time and either cause a very low idle but normally a high idle. It is very hard to change on the 93 - 96 models. Two 8mm bolts holds it in. Removing the hood helps out more than you would ever realize. The TPS helps out a lot also with idle issues and also some shift changes. Pull out your MAF and buy some MAF cleaner and clean the little wire inside. You would be amazed at what a difference that little dirty wire will make once it's cleaned. Put in a new air filter and you'll be set.

Do you have to drop fuel tank to change fuel pump on 93 mark v111

The fuel pump is a submerged type located inside the gas tank. You need to drop the tank to get to it since it goes in thru the top. Major undertaking, The fuel FILTER is located behind the cowling on the passenger side front wheel well. Better get a shop/Chilton manual if you plan on doing it yourself or you can pick up the fuel pump at Auto Zone and they can give you the step by step instructions to getting the job done with common tools. Good luck and be safe, keep me posted be glad to answer any questions you may have.

on the bottom side of the seat back is a seam it is held together by locking plastic strips that you can pry apart with a screw driver or trim tool. from there you can roll up seat cover. velcro strip hold parts of it to the foam. the seat bottom has plastic strips that snap to the underside of the seat frame. you can remove them the same way. as for the recliner issue you wont knnow till you get in there. Im not sure about the spring but something could have fallen in there preventing it from locking into place
