When letting off the gas and stopping, why does check engine light come on?

You should check your oil level before starting the car again. If the oil level is good, and the oil in good shape, you may have a weak oil pump.

What could be the problem in 89 Lincoln town car if ac blow hot air when accelerating but when ideling or less then 46 mph blows cold?

I'm no expert when it comes to your vehicle. However it sounds to me as though there may be a vacuum leak somewhere causing the HVAC door that controls the AC/heat to be faulting to the 'hot' side. Drive the car up to 55 MPH with the AC on. Making sure there is no vehicles close behind you, completely let off the gas pedal and see if it starts blowing cold air right after letting off the throttle. If it blows cold, then it's probably a vacuum leak. If it doesn't blow cold then it could simply be low on freon or a partially clogged filter in the AC line. Hope this helps.

Remove transmission on a 1989 lincoln town car

Very Heavy trans.. 1. disconnect Battery ground cable. YOU must disconnect the shift linkage, The exuast system, the cooling lines, wires to switches, Remove the drive shaft, remove starter, remove the dipstick tube, Remove all bolts that attach the trans to the engine.. When you take it out trans fluid will be able to spill from rear area where the drive shaft spline is.. i suggest if you are going to remove the trans drain the fluid first.. WHILE YOU HAVE IT OUT REPLACE the filter and rear trans seal. after installation replace fluid with new fluid. I suggest before you try this you buy the Chilton Manual for your car.. Small investment to do it right.. This is a big job for the home mechanic if you do not know what you are doing.

How do I Fix my Speedometer? Answer Repairing or replacing the speedometer for your car is a pretty easy undertaking. Mostly exhaust mechanics do this work, because you have to weld parts of the exhaust besides the clamps to ensure that it stays connected.

Drove to the store, turned off the car,5 mins later tried to start it and all it does is crank and crank but wont start.NEVER had a starting prob. before! alternator is good, battery is good, starter is

Yes, they can. With no warning whatsoever, in some cases. Do you not hear it turn on for a couple seconds with key on? Try some starting fluid sprayed into the engine, then crank it. If it fires up and runs a few seconds, you know it is a gas problem. The definitive test for a bad pump is to check for power on the pump wire at the gas tank connector, when the engine is cranking over. If power there and no pump, the pump is bad. If no power getting to the pump when cranking, the pump circuit needs checked-check the fuel pump fuse, there is also a fuel pump relay under the hood.

My 1989 Town Car has a hard start problem and

That's a tough one.. I think you may have been on the right track when you replaced the negative battery cable. The next thing I think you should suspect are the grounding straps located between your engine and the frame of the car. As an experiment, hook a jumper cable between the block of the engine and the frame of the car. Make sure you have good connections and THEN try starting it and see if you can tell any difference. Grounding is the most often neglected or overlooked aspect of electrical problems.
