Starting problems with my 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe

I have been having a hard time with starting my car, it takes a long time for it to crank on. I have spent so much money only to be stuck with the same problems. When I first go out in the morning to leave for work, it has a hard time cranking over but once on it runs just fine and smoothly. Then when I go home from work, same problems, wont crank over. I have been all over trying to get diagnositics done with zero luck. I went to one garage and they said I was getting now pressure from my fuel pump so I spent $300 for a new pump only to find out it did no good.

It has a hard time cranking over in the morning but once started runs fine. If I go into a store for say 15- a half hour, same thing, wont crank over smoothly. But, if I start it let it run or drive it, come home turn it off then immediately crank it over to start it again, it starts up just fine! I am at a loss here and dont want to or should I say cant spend anymore money trying to figure out the problem as I am going broke here. HELP!!! Also my check engine light has never came on at all through all this.

I have an 03 Santa Fe as well and just had the exact thing happen to me. One day, it just wouldn't turn over at all and I had to have it towed to the dealer. They replaced the "crank shaft position sensor" and now the car is fine. I am not sure if this is your problem but it might be worthwhile asking someone to check it out.

Engine performance problem causes are many. Try this first.
1. Disconnect the battery cables (both of them)
2. Touch/connect the postive and negative battery cables together for 30 seconds.
3. Reconnect the cables to the battery.
4. Drive vehicle to see if this solved the problem. Let me know what happens.

You'll need a scanner which is compatible with Hyundai's ABS system to retrieve any DTC's (Diagnostic Trouble Codes) stored in its computer. Any time the ABS light comes on, there's a DTC stored in its computer - that code will tell you where the problem exists. Then you can go from there.

ASC Sunroof needs to be programmed

The ASC Sunroof on our 2002 Blazer .....
When the battery was disconnected for the remote start a few weeks ago,
it caused the sunroof to go into a 'program mode'. It doesn't open or close completely.
The buttons just 'bump' the sunroof unless you hold them down.

The control panel on the headboard has four buttons - 'Open', 'Close', 'Vent' and 'ASC'.
The roof works in both directions but only by using the 'Open' and 'Vent' buttons.....
The 'Close' and 'ASC' don't do anything.....
The 'ASC' button is presently flashing red & green.

I need to find out how to reprogram the buttons to open and close to the right positions.
I am worried just using it with the 'Open' and 'Vent' buttons I will not get it completely
closed (it is really hard to tell if is completely closed, since it goes from closed straight to the Vent Mode).

I've been looking on the web for the reprogram sequence, but haven't found it yet.
One website said hold the blinking ASC button for 10 seconds, then press the 'open' button.
I tried it, but it didn't work.

I know for a fact the sunroof does this when the battery is disconnected.
I would think any service shop that replaces a battery, or disconnects a battery for service,
knows how to reset the sunroof.

hold the vent button until the roof has "tilted" completely, then hold the open button until the roof has opened completely. the light that reads ASC should now be green and your sunroof should operate normally.

hi from uk please try this ? with key removed try gently turning steerwheel to the right if you feel a slight spring in steering ? hold on the spring and insert key it should work and release lockand turn ign on ? if steering is springing on left ? try as above the same method not unusual for steer lock to prevent turning key as the steering even in straight position ? the necessity to gently release load on lock is req'd to allow key to turn/unlock the steering lock from the steering column practice doing the above each time you fit key to unlock steering and tuning ign on to start hope this helps

how to remove door panel from hyundai santa fe

how to remove door panel from hyundai santa fe

Answer

  • Most Helpful of 1 Answers

A door panel removal tool works best, but if you have a stiff putty knife about 4" long and 1 1/4" wide it will work if you are careful. Start at the bottom of the panel and work your way around. Insert the blade all the way in between the panel and the door with the edge of the blade right next to the plastic fastener. Then pull the tool handle away from the door slowly. It will take a bit of pressure to get the first one or two clips to release.

The other steps I follow to remove this panel are as follows:

1. Remove the screw in the trim behind the door handle and then remove the trim piece.

2. Remove the door release cable from the handle.

3. Remove the door handle mounting bolts and then remove the handle.

4. Remove the three door panel mounting screws: 2 on the back edge of the panel and 1 in the door pull cup.

5. Separate the panel edges from the door. (see above) Lift the panel up starting with the back edge first to free the top lip of the panel from the door.

6. Disconnect the electrical connectors from the switches and light. (You may need a very small flat blade screw driver to depress the locking tabs on the switch connectors.)

plz rate this solution as i have a whole page of unrated posts, thanks

where is the starter located on a 2003 hyundai

where is the starter located on a 2003 hyundai santa fe

Answer

raise the front end.
Starter is mounted to the lower-left side of the engine.
You didn't specify an engine, so assuming the 2.7 V6.

Starter is a cylindrical canister about the size of a large can of beans...Follow the heavy red cable from the battery down to the front of the starter.

*You may need to remove the transaxle cables for access*

Take the old starter with you to buy the replacement, and you'll get your core credit on-the-spot.

As a side note: the '02 models were recalled in Jan '03 for faulty starter assemblies...but I don't see a note on the '03.

Rear brake lights stay on

Rear brake lights stay on Hyundai Santa Fe V6. I know it's Ddefective or mis- adjusted brake light switch. I also know that it's located at the upper end of the brake pedal under dash area. I am trying to save some money, is this a job I can do on my own? If so, how do I go about it?

SOLVED: Is a small piece of plastic (a sensor) you can replace in less than a minute (or temporarily patch with duck tape). Is called a Brake bumper and is at the end of the brake pedal. I just solved it in my Hyundai Santa Fe 2003 V4. I found the EXACT solution in this video: "Brake lights stuck on? Easy fix!"

2009 Hyunda Santa Fe stalls while driving

Our 2009 Hyundai Santa Fe has stalled 5 times while driving. Each time it has occured - total power is lost, no steering or brakes. It has happened when slowing down. No error codes and the dealer can not find a problem.

I had a similar problem with my Santa Fe. It occurred intermittently but after I turned the steering wheel to the left. After much screwing around by the dealer and trying to baffle me with BS we heard about a strange solution. I am not a mechanic but the problem somehow related to a spring in the Airbag on the steering wheel. Changed the spring and "Stone the flame'n crows" problem solved. Never had a problem since.
