The ashtray light should come on automatically on a Hyundai Accent when you open it. If it is not coming on you could have a blown bulb with any auto parts store carries for around $1-5.-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's tough. You need to remove the plastic liner to get access to the connectors:
Remove all black screws off the plastic liner.
Remove small plastic cover at middle brake light using a small flat screw-driver.
Remove the yellow screw and the 3 black ones. This will relief the middle brake box.
You can unplug it (quarter-turn anti-clockwise) to ease further tasks.
Unclip the two narrow plastic covers on the side of the hatch back. Proceed bottom to top. There are 3 clipping slots. I broke the middle one on each...
Now you can unclip the big liner: there are 4 or 6 clipping slots at the bottom only. When you feel there is no more clip engaged, push the liner up. Unclipping is the toughest... Don't be affraid! There are screws if you brake one, anyway.
Enjoy the Korean engineering as I just did!

For any one dealing with this type of problems on your ford, hyundai, or any other cars, I would first recommend that you follow this steps one at the time before you think about rebuilding, or replacing your ****** untill you find the problem as any of this can cause the gear error, slipping and codes. 1- check your ****** oil level and add if low. 2-Check all your trans wire connectors and cables around it, unplug and re-plug them. 3-Replace your gear, speed and oil cooling sensors attached to it (you can try some used ones from the junk yards) make sure they look clean and not rusted or too old. and immediately after you replace them reset the ECU- Engine Computer Unit by disconnecting your positive battery cable for 20 to 30 min then reconnect and drive on street only. not freeway for two days and see if you notice any change. it is very important that you reset the ecu to erase the error codes from the computer before you derive it with the new sensors. If this does not help then you have internal failure, maybe bad selenoids, bad clutch torque converter, bad valve body parts, and even broken gears deep inside.

advanced auto or auto zone should be able to check for free and tell you what the codes mean . then go from there to see if you need a mechanic or a do it yourself issue.

Take the car to an auto parts store (call ahead to check) and have them check the codes - should be free!

Report back.
