my saturn ion wont start and the key wont turn to off so i can take the key out. its stuck in acc and can turn to on but wont start.none of my lights work and my security light used to be on and now its off.
When the battery is dead, the key cannot be removed. You can either charge the battery, and remove the key or, there is a access panel (small) under the steering column, remove this, and push a small pluger to the left, while holding the plunger, remove the key.

Need ignition wiring diagram for 1997 Saturn 4 door automatic. About to install a remote starter for the winter months
I think these are the 2 diagrams you need, but they aren't that useful in this form. I recommend you post a request at the bottom of the following site to get a better answer: http://www.modifiedlife.com/request-saturn-remote-start-wiring-diagram/

97 saturn sl2 temp light flashing and low coolant light flashing what could be the problem ? coolant is full and the heat works.
If the temp gauge is reading normal, the lights are flashing, and the coolant level is full, the level sensor in the coolant bottle is the problem. I'm a service consultant for a Saturn dealer and I've run across this many times.

How to bleed brakes on 1997 Saturn
The brake system bleeding procedure differs for ABS and non-ABS
vehicles. The following procedure pertains only to non-ABS vehicles. For
details on bleeding ABS equipped vehicles, refer to the ABS procedures
later in this section.
Fig. 1: Loosen the front brake line in order to bleed the master cylinder
Fig. 2: Connect a bleed hose from the bleed valve on the front caliper to a jar of brake fluid
Fig. 3: Always follow the lettered sequence when bleeding the hydraulic brake system Hope this helps to solve it; remember to rate this answer.
WARNING
Make sure the master cylinder contains clean DOT 3 brake fluid at all times during the procedure.
WARNING
Do not allow brake fluid to spill on or come in contact with the
vehicle' finish, as it will remove the paint. In case of a spill,
immediately flush the area with water.

How do I replace the fuel filter on a 1997 Saturn SL2?
It is an inline fuel filter under the car in the frame rail up front neat the motor area. It will look similar to this...
On that saturn it has a hose already attached to the fuel filter. It has what they call quick connects on both sides. just remove one side of air intake. (the one closest to firewall of car) where you can get your arm in there. Reach right under fuel filter and grab two white or green tabs with pointer finger and thumb. and squeeze till they make a snaping noice. then all you have to do is reach under fuel filter and pull hose off. Then push the black clips around fuel filter out and it should slide out. The same on the hose already connected to the fuel filter

Hi, I noticed antifreeze leaking from my car in a major way. Overnight, and it's all leaked out on the ground. So, I took the two lugnuts off the reservoir, holding it to the passenger side of the car and inspected the reservoir. The top hose and the side hose (going to the radiator) looked fine. But there was a bottom skinny hose that was barely hanging on by a thread (that's what it looked like) at the bottom of the reservoir. It had major "wear and tear." I would like to repair this myself. It seems like a simple fix. The only problem is with the reservoir still connected to the other two (black) good hoses, I can't really see how the bottom hose is supposed to be connected to the reservoir. As a temporary fix, a friend suggested an apoxy to repair the hose. But I couldn't get the hose to align with the bottom of the reservoir -- where I thought it should go & I was using my fingers to feel around and couldn't really see. It was really a tight fit to get my hand under the reservoir. So, after adding some apoxy with limited results, I took a piece of masking tape and adhered it to the whole thing and it seemed to help make the connection. I'm sure it's a flimsy way to fix anything. But, I applied a second layer of the apoxy -- it's the kind you smoosh in your hands for awhile and then apply --it's soft but is supposed to dry I guess to a rubber consistency. AlumiSeal I believe it is called. After letting it sit overnight, I added water this morning to the reservoir b/c I am almost broke and don't want to waste my antifreeze. I'm waiting now to see if it will leak. I figure if I can find out what kind of hose goes on the bottom, I may be able to drive 1-3 miles to pick it up without hurting my car. I can't seem to find any photos or information online about the water reservoir and hoses. But this thin hose feels like it's made with metal -- it bends but when I scratch it with my fingernail, it feels like metal (if that makes sense). I can barely touch it b/c there is such a tight fight between the water reservoir and the other reservoir that sits next to it -- about the same size & holds the windshield wash liquid. Should I take all the hoses off the water reservoir so I can see what's going on better, or will I get myself into irreversible trouble? It seems like it would be easy. But, being a female, I haven't had a lot of experience with repairs. It is out of necessity that I need to fix this myself. I would much prefer to have it repaired, but I'm sure even Saturn would overcharge me for something that seems simple like this. I am in FL and it's pretty hot here any day. I need the coolant system to work. Thanks if you can help.
There should only be 2 hoses going to the resivoir. A small hose to the top, fender side. And a larger hose bottom toward the engine. There is a coolant level switch on the bottom. If you roll the washer resivoir forward it will lift up out of the way, without un-hooking anything. Hopefully this helps.

1997 Saturn SL-2 emergency brake handle BUTTON fell out / off. Emergency brake functional, but can't leave car out of gear (manual)when vehicle is unattended. Live in flat Florida so no huge deal.
Well my 97 sl2's button also flew out of the emergency brake handle. I got frustrated when i saw how much they wanted for the parts to get it fixed. But the solution was as close as my tool box. I found a forgotten tube of 5 ton epoxy resin. And since i didn't feel like spending $100,00 i took the cover off the emergency brake put epoxy gel inside the broken button put the spring on and put the plastic piece in place put on and held the button down for 10 minutes with my bare hands until set to usable strength and now it works perfectly.

My car will start but dies immediately unless I keep my foot on the gas pedal. The lights, radio, and battery sounds fine and all turn on and I just replaced the battery so it's not that. I got a diagnosis for it and they said the throttle needed to be replaced and the fuel system needs cleaned. Is this accurate? How much should that cost? The estimate was $400, which seemed like a lot
get the fault codes read somewhere else
first have the ecm reset using a scan tool as replacing the battery can corrupt the program

I have a 1997 Saturn SL2. I have no heat. We have replaced the thermostat, the water pump and flushed the system. Still no heat! What's next..replacing the heater core or power flushing?
If its replacing the heater core are there any FREE instructions how to do this on my Saturn?
It is your heater core, there is nothing else left.
The heater housing is usually under the dash, and it must be removed to gain access to the heater core.Procedures for removing a dash, and heater core vary. But for the core:
The heater housing must be removed, and then you
"remove the panels" or "split the case" (Usually screwed together.)
Remove the coolant hoses, the cable and vacuum control line.
Remove the heater core bracket and clamps.
To install the new heater core, reverse the removal steps.
Core leaks **** because of the core's
location deep within the firewall/ dashboard of the car.
So remember to liquid test your new one before you put it back in, or you could be sorry.
