Drove the car down the street yesterday, when I came out of store car would not start. All power is good dash lights come on but when you turn the key nothing happens, no noise, nothing.

Could be the starter, a bad connection, neutral safety switch, or the key switch. Will it crank in neutral instead of park ?

Is there a heat shield on the starter

I don't think there is a heat shield on the starter but, I wouldn't think that would be you're problem. I would try changing the ignition module. It's on the engine block, drivers side, I think. Usually when they are going bad they will shut off engine when they get hot. It won't crank until it cools off. After it cools engine will crank and run good until it gets hot again. Good Luck.

1997 Saturn SL-2 emergency brake

Well my 97 sl2's button also flew out of the emergency brake handle. I got frustrated when i saw how much they wanted for the parts to get it fixed. But the solution was as close as my tool box. I found a forgotten tube of 5 ton epoxy resin. And since i didn't feel like spending $100,00 i took the cover off the emergency brake put epoxy gel inside the broken button put the spring on and put the plastic piece in place put on and held the button down for 10 minutes with my bare hands until set to usable strength and now it works perfectly.

1997 Saturn SL can't get it started Have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs, CPS sensor and coolant sensor.

Im not sure if this will completely solve your problem, but I will give it a try. If the engine is flooded, crank the engine while holding the gas pedal to the floor for a couple minutes (or until it sputters or starts). This will get all of the extra gas out of the engine. Your plugs will be fine.Check your fuel pressure with a test kit...they have a bleeder port that can purge the air out of the fuel rail. Its possible the old gas may have gone bad in 6 years. you may have to purge the old gas with fresh gas. couldnt hurt to put a couple bottles of fuel injector cleaner with your gas. Your injectors could be gummed up with varnish from the old gas. Before you waste a bunch of money and time replacing good parts, get a code reader or have a mechanic hook up a code reader for you. This will help isolate your problems. If you are not getting a check engine light, the mechanic method may be better because their computers will give you more information than a handheld.
