2005 Saturn SC1 - Page 6 Questions & Answers
Ignition problems key stuck, had electical cloud of smoke come out
put a stick of dynomite and blew it up....LoL actually problem wasnt resolved on the reason why it happened but after investigation the black wire on the ignition harness was the one that burnt up which ended up being the ground wire to the system so i disconnected existing burnt wire about an inch away from the connector and replaced the wire and grounded it to the metal base under my dash and stearing column. And keep them seperate so if the same problem arises for some reason the wire wont harm any other wires which can be very costly at a repair shop to replace the whole harness. I was on a limited budget. Meaning didnt have money to fix it the way it should of. This soulition is just what I did not a recommended way of doing it.

My niece has a 2001 Saturn SC1. She locked
You have been locked out by the passlock system and it needs to relearn the security system. Here's how to do it without a scan tool. It takes 3o minutes and patience to do it right
30 Minute Learn Procedure
Tools Required: None
- Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
- Attempt to start the engine, then release the key to ON (vehicle will not start).
- Observe the SECURITY telltale, after approximately 10 minutes the telltale will turn OFF.
- Turn OFF the ignition, and wait 5 seconds .
- Repeat steps 1 through 4, 2 more times for a total of 3 cycles/30 minutes . The vehicle is now ready to relearn the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or passwords on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. IMPORTANT: The vehicle learns the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password on the next ignition switch transition from OFF to CRANK. You must turn the ignition OFF before attempting to start the vehicle.
- Start the engine. The vehicle has now learned the Passlock Sensor Data Code and/or password.

My '93 saturn sc1 seatbelt
Hi Jerry,
There is a fuse panel behind the console kick panel on the passenger side. Pull the panel off (velcro stays). The legend and fuse layout is embossed on the back of the panel.
A couple other things you might try though. Underneath the front seats are sensors that normally tell the brain someone is sitting in them. Look under the seats for a plug with two wires coming out of it. Pull the plug. Any difference?
Does the the belt shuttle move at all? Is it stripped? If so, you might try helping it along to the other end of the track. It may shut down on its own that way.
And last but not least, as a temporary solution, pull the negative terminal from the battery over night until it gets fixed for real.
Let me know what you find out.
Mike
I have a 95 Saturn
Hello voss_rod,
I have a Saturn too. Happens all the time. The last time you turned the vehicle off the wheel was turned one way or the other. When the steering locked, the wheel trying to center itself put a lot of tension on the key cylinder.
The Fix:
Which ever way the wheels are facing (however slightly), turn the wheel a little more in the same direction while trying the key. It will only take the slightest movement of the wheel to release the tension and allow the key to turn.
If you find this helpful, take a second and rate this solution. I'd sure appreciate it.
Mike
