How do i change a fuel pump and fuel filter ?
the fule pump is located in the fuel tank. The fuel tank will need to be removed in order to service the fuel pump. The fuel filter is under the drivers side of the car just in front of the rear wheel. There will be two 10mm bolts holding it in place and three quick connect fittings holding the fuel lines on. The bolts usually break when removing so don,t be surprised if that happens. CODE SAYS MISSFIRE AND IDLE GOES UP AND DOWN
It sounds like your intake manifold gasket. These cars are well known for this. Get a can of either brake cleaner, or engine cleaner. While the car is running, spray the cleaner directly onto the gasket where the intake manifold bolts onto the back of motor. Most of these cars leak air between cyl. 1 and 2. there are 9 nuts holding this on. If you hear any change in the idle while spraying, you will have just confirmed that the gasket is the problem. Let me know how you make out, and if you need, I have this complete change on video. Its a cheap change and easily done let me know how this test goes, and if it's not the problem I can teach you how to check the Air idle, throttle positioning , and EGR sensors. Let me know
How to find and clean the IAC on a 2002 Saturn sl1?
First disconnect the air vent to the throttle body. The TB will come off with 2 10mm bolts. Dont lose the gasket. Undo the throttle cable, and 2 vacuum hoses on top. Be careful not to lose the spacer on the vacuum hoses. Take the 2 10mm bolts out and remove the TB. The AIC is bolted on the side under the TPS throttle positioning sensor. It can be removed with a torex socket or screw driver. When you take this off be careful not to lose the O ring. Spray the plunger down with brake cleaner and spray the throttle body down too, especially where the AIC fits into the flange. When you are cleaning the AIC Dont push it in or force it to move. It's not supposed to move by hand. Now, the back of your throttle body maybe [will be ] carboned up, you must spray this and scrape the carbon off. Get all the dirt off and make sure the vacuum holes are clear and the flap closes flush. Replace the opposite of removal. What are the car's symptoms? Over idling? If so, take the can of brake cleaner directly onto the intake manifold gasket. Near the power steering pump and across . Spray this directly on while car is running. If the idle changes at all, your intake manifold gasket is shot. These cars are well known for this , that is why I added that info. I just replaced my own last week. Let me know how you make out. How do I disable the security system to allow the car to start?
A lot of GM cars can be overridden by leaving the ignition turned on for about 10-30 minutes. Be sure to connect a battery charger while doing this so that you do not run the battery down and defeat the purpose. If it does not work after leaving the key on (where the dash lights are on) for 10 minutes, disconnect the battery for a minute and try again for a full 30 minutes (or more). This normally works on the older GM vehicles like yours. Any battery interruptions after this will require you to do it again in the future. Email me if this works for your

How do you replace heater core
First your going to drain all the coolant/antifreeze. 2nd your gonna look under the hood against the passenger side firewall and locate the 2 black heater hoses those will be what are attached to your heater core but don't do anything to them, go in the passenger compartment and remove the parts of the dashboard and glove box until you see what looks like a miniature radiator that's gonna be your heater core. It may have some sort of casing around it so just track the hoses and remove and replace. Pretty simple just a pain to get too in most vehicles....
Transmission shifting very hard
Unfortunatly my transmission does the same thing. I had it repaired for about $800 only to have the same thinig happen again about 4 months down the road. It seems that there are alot of horror stories about these saturn transmissions. My trans has been slamming for about 3 years now and it still works...per say. Id say either replace it or just drive it until it breaks.
2002 sl2 rpms very slow to drop when shifting manual transmission
Okay, check the TPS you installed for proper meshing of the components. Disconnect the throttle cable and feel action of spring for binding. Check throttle plate for carbon and dirt buildup, clean. Now some TPS units have a slot on one end. This can correct the jump in RPM. Just slide the unit either way while the engine is running and see if it speeds up or decreases the idle position. Then tighten the mounts. There are some other adjustments possible but check for a bad intake leak. This can be done with the engine running and using a spray bottle of water. Mist the seams of the intake gasket and around vacuum lines. Any change in RPM or stalling will prove there is a leak and allow you to fix it.It is kinda simple. A air leak is like opening the throttle to let more air in. The engine will run faster. Correct the leak and the idle should be reduced.
