Windscreen washers not operating They are not

Hi

A common problem, down to wind chill. Even with engine hot and the water being warmed up in the screen wash bottle, the jets are wind chilled. At 0°C and your driving at say 30 mph in the snow, the effective temp is - 8°C on the jets.

Firstly use winter screen wash, or full stength stuff, it usually says on the bottle, and will not freeze till minus 10°C or better.

In the morning pour warm water on the jet, not boiling and keep it way from the windscreen. If you can get the insulation they use on micro bore gas pipe, you could try that to help keep those unprotected washer hoses lagged.

Why my range rover classic tdi 5 speed manual the gearbox getting very hot ?

check the oil level and the type of oil in the gear box. If too much oil -that will make it hot. If too little oil -that will make it hot. IF the oil is not right viscosity -that will make it hot. get a infrared thermometer and read the gear box temperature to get an idea of the oil temperature as what feels hot on the stick may be operating temperature of the oil

Back firing through air intake at 3000-4000 revs

IF the engine runs fine at lower RPM and there is no fault codes appearing then it may be valve bounce from weak /broken valve springs or incorrect tappet clearance or hydraulic tappets that are badly worn and not operating at the high RPM. Check rocker shaft bushes and rockers for wear that will allow the units to fail at RPM. Another thing --if you have points in a distributor then the points may be bouncing from weak spring or the cam for the pionts is badly worn on a worn distributor shaft.

Where is transmision fluid level check

You do not say if it is a manual or auto.

Manual - The level fill plug is left hand side looking up at the gear box from underneath on your back, head at the engine end. Undo on level ground or a ramp if possible. You will need a imperial socket/spanner set.
When you undo the upper plug, which is about the middle of the box, you should find a clear red oil in side, is just below the thread level. You will not see this so use a pencil as a dip stick, only putting in an inch, do not let go of it, and if you find that the level is low check seals. If less than 1/4 inch don't worry.

Top as needed with gear box oil see owners hand book, or your local autostore. If if brown or milky coff coloured it is in need of replacement and any problems such as water ingress will need to be identified.

Autos is easy, dip stick in the engine bay up by the bulk head......though you will need to run the engine at some stage of checking this, and use you hand brake, engine in neutral. There is an oil filler tube to top to amke life a bit easier.

Get a service manual or book or try http://www.landroverweb.com/Land-Rover-Range-Rover-manual-pdf.htm

88 RRC 3.5ltr

Its the cold start sensor, happened to me a few years ago. Sensor located just behind thermostat housing, there are two and you will see the wiring plugs going to them. I am sure it is the front one. Cheap repair, lucas part is about £6.
Be careful though, steel into alloy! ease it out gently and take time putting it back in to avoid cross-thread. Fiddly job but not hard.

88 range rover hard to start

It sounds like you're not getting enough fuel see if any of the fuel lines are leaking. Even the vent tube on the gas tank to filler neck, because that can cause poor fuel pressure.Another thing would be the stepper motor is going bad. And last check the cold start sensor right by the thermostat, the sensor with one wire going to it and is facing straight forward.

Check if the window sticks while moving , this will indicate a fault on the window channel or winder mechanism. If the window stops suddenly it is either the switch or the motor , the switch can be taken out and stripped and cleaned easily.
