Battery Light remains on when car started, and while driving

The battery light is on because there is a problem in the charging system for the battery, have the charging system tested by a parts store like Autozone, it is free. If the Alternator is defective I DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU BUY IT FROM AUTOZONE. Purchase a rebuilt unit from the new car dealer parts, they are much more reliable and the extra cost is worth the money.

Hi i went and put gas in both tanks then started it up then switched tanks and it shut off. switched it back and still wont start now. please help me fix mothers car, thankyou. bob

Sounds as though something went wrong with the change-over valve. Maybe it is stuck or short of electricity or something. I suggest you start by reading the handbook and then checking the fuses. If all is ok there locate the valve and while someone works the switch for you try tapping the valve with a small mallet or screwdriver handle. If that doesn't work it will be time for more in-depth checks. I suggest visiting a Jaguar forum. Good luck!

Jaguar 1987 radio code reset failure

I can only advise you see the Jag dealer on this. I think you don't have the correct code and only they can check that for you in the factory data base for your car.

Trunk will not open fuel door will not open all

You have listed the vehicle is a 1987 Jaguar XJ6. The trunk is not electronic and only unlocks with the key as well as both the gas doors. Any issues here then it is your key or the actual trunk latch. If you do have a 1988 model year then the trunk lock has 3 positions. locked all the time, unlocked all the time or the vertical position locks and unlocks with the vehicles drivers door lock. If the trunk button (paddle) is loose and moves but nothing happens then the inside rod has come loose and you will have to manually operate the latch by removing the license plate and taking a long screw driver through the lower plastic bungs. The fuel flap is a separate unite and does have a manual release but you need to open the trunk to get to it. If the fuel flap stays locked all the time then the actually filler neck module will need replacing. If you have a 1997 which has the electronic release button to open the trunk (95-2003) Then you will need to firstly lock all door and unlock the drivers door 2 times. Check the fuel flap is now released, if not then the fuel flap actuator located on the filler neck inside the trunk is bad. If the trunk does not open with the remote, inside car switch and trunk mounted switch then the passenger side trunk harness is broken. Open the trunk with the key and on the right(passenger) hinge there is a grey plastic cover, remove that cover and carefully peel back the wiring harness cover and you will find 1 or more broken wires. Once the wires are repaired then I recommend you zip tie them in place and retest the trunk release button. If this does not answer any of your questions please feel free to email [email protected]

Car will go in reverse and drive but will not lock

there is a pin in the transmission that holds it in place when park is engaged, there is a possibility that the pin is damaged therefore there is nothing to lock it.

1987 vanden plas won't start

The fuel has to be under pressure in the fuel rail. Quick check for the pressure: pinch off the fuel return line and get an assistant to crank the engine. If it starts....it needs a new check valve in the rail. Fuel is just circulating in a loop from the tank. No pressure being generated to enable fuel injectors to "fire".
If FP ok, then check the neutral sw in the trans selector hsng. if not operated when selector is in P or N engine will not start.

Check air flap in the throttle valve body is not stuck in open position. and is free to operate. The idle bleed /cold start valve needs the air flap to be operational.

Check connecting bellows between throttle body and inlet m'fold to ensure no air leaks. If leaking it will by-pass the control in the throttle body.

Not aware of your skills so for me to start getting into the other possibles would be a bit premature.
