How old is your battery? If you get a jump to start your car and it works then your batter is on it's last legs. You can charge a battery but if it does not have the required cold cranking amps (CCA) it will not turn over. If you can get your car started I recommend that you go to any battery shop like NAPA or Interstate and they can check your CCA. If your CCA is too low even with a full charge you need to replace your battery.

check for vacuum leaks at upper plenum halves . I just got one in shop with that kinda problem and it has lean codes in memory along with throttle code . it is leaking at spot below throttle body and top left corner . engine has a slight higher idle . codes are PO171,PO174,PO507 AND HAVE NO GASKETS SETS FOR REBUILDING UPPER PLENUM ..

I assume you are taking about an automatic transmission. There are 2 main reasons why this is not working. 1 The transmission oil is overdue to be charged. 2 There is a leak on one of the galleries inside the gearbox.
The misfire could be a multitude of problems that may only be traced by plunging into a computer. This will cost you money by the garage, but could save you a fortune on lost time and you will be free to change what only needs to be changed by yourself saving on garage fees and parts. If you do this by a process of ilimination you may be buying expensive parts you don't need and still not solve the problem.
