Hi i have a porshe

This key shouldn't need programming, not from the dealer. And if it does for some reason the dealer should have told you this. I work with alot of different cars and some keys need programmed some don't. Some of the ones that do need programmed , the dealer will tell you the procedure or that it has to be towed to the dealership and programmed there. You may have gotten the wrong key. ie.. chip in it

For one I would ask if the owner/dealer has any receipts or service logs for any repairs or preventative maintenance that were done and the frequency of them as well (especially for oil changes). Also, if you're unfamiliar with that specific vehicle I'd suggest taking it to an independant automotive service provider (don't necessarily take the dealer word if that's where you're looking) who deals with Porsche's or high end imports that can give you a good assessment of the vehicle's condition. A good inspection will include a thourough check of the motor, transmission, suspension, tires, braking system, electronics, and undercarraige/frame for any substantial damage. A good inspection may take up to 2 hours and cost a nominal fee but could in turn save you a substantial amount of money on any unknown underlying problems. Those are fun cars btw, with superb handling.

'99 911 with an aftermarket radio, the alarm tends

This is common with Porsche, VW and Audi. The radio IS part of the anti theft system and part of its ground circuitry. The best thing to do is to replace the radio with the stock unit OR, find someone with Porsche experience to which they will be able to wire it accordingly to match the factory wiring. Not everyone can do this. Is it equipped with an aftermarket alarm system too? If so, have it removed.

Check engine light comes on

Check the air passage tube between the mass air flow sensor/air filter and intake manifold.
A loss or damaged (hair line crack) will allow more air into intake under acceleration.
The knock sensor will go into action to compensate (****** timing / cut fuel pressure) .
=====
Are you using K&N oil type filter?
Over oil on K&N can reduce the temperature and volumetric reading accuracy.
When compare data down stream O2 sensors (pre and post catalytic),it will trigger fail read

Please take your time to inspect for crack and leaks on the air passage tube.
Keep me posted on the fix via email.

What is the comon fault

The most serious common faults are with the standard 3.4 engine in the early 996 Carrera models (not applicable to Turbo engined vehicles which is a different engine design):

1. The engine cylinder liners develop hairline cracks. (Engine replacement or rebuild required).

2. The intermediate shaft bearings fail in these engines (a well known design fault). Failure requires engine replacement.

3. The rear main seals in the engines fail as exhibited by a slowly worsening oil leak. The seal needs to be replaced when they leak. It's an expensive job.

Problems 1 and 2 are serious have resulted in many engine replacements. Problems 2 and 3 remained when Porsche upgraded to the standard 3.6 engine in the series two 996 Carrera models (problems not applicable to Turbo engines)..

There are a few other issues such as Air Conditioning condensers that clog up with road debris and eventually become porous and fail.

I have a Porsche 911

It is most certainly your battery. Those big batteries need a trickle charge on them if you're not driving them a lot. On the 996 Carrera it seems to use a lot of battery power to turn over the engine so first thing I'd suggest is trickle charging it (up front directly in front of windscreen) then try, if that doesn't work, change the battery. If it's completely dead and you can't get the front hood open, there are a positive and negative terminal for getting a current through in the engine bay bottom left(i think). Hope this helps.

Hesitation during sudden acceleration but

Hello John
Your 95 octane is prety good gas ,you do not need to add anything to it.
For your hesitation make sure your oil filler cap is on ,fuel tank cap as well are tight.
These are just basic first problems with the engine light on.
The oxy sensors are either good on not good, cleaning would not help, you have 4 of them.
Unless you have them tested at the dealer.
Just frive it and get rid of the additives.
