RAN THIS TEST IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA ONLY!

You will spill some coolant during this air pocket purge test.......BE KIND TO THE ENVIRONMENT and ANIMAL please clean up after the test!

Put the front end on a pair of ramp or park your car on a VERY STEEP HILL (radiator facing top of the hill) .

Top of the coolant reserve tank

Let it ran for 10-15 minutes.

Monitor for air pockets escaping from coolant reserve tank.

Small amount of bubbles is OK at 1-5 minute mark

After the thermostat open up (after 195 F warm up) at
5-12 minute mark or after high idle you should see less bubbles.

If you do not see any in rush of bubbles then your thermostat may be partially stuck or rusted badly inside the thermostat hosing.

Give the thermostat host few gentle taps.

If you see larger bubbles surfacing after 15 minutes then should do a hydrocarbon (HC) dye test to test for potential head gasket leak.

Let engine cold down and top off coolant reserve tank.

Start monitor for coolant lost

A coolant flush is require every 2 years or 24,000 miles.

I recommend the thermostat that has a relief pop-let to reduce the change of burst radiator and coolant hoses.

Make sure you get a new thermostat gasket, black RTV and fresh coolant for the job.

Relays are to reduce the voltage that goes to verious components in the car that do not require 12 volts, you would want to check the fuses inside the car either under dash or door jam panel or glove box. But changing the relays would not correct any short that may have accured. The fuses would.

Water pump 98 lincoln contenianal

If your engine looks the same as the video, the pump can removed without having to move other components out of the way. Drain radiator Loosen the pump pulley bolts with the serpentine belt still on. This will put tension on the pulley so it doesn\'t turn. Then take serpentine belt off. Then remove the four bolts on the water pump. Have a drip pan under the pump. Clean pump mating surface on the engine. Install new pump with O ring. The link below gives detailed info. How do you replace the water pump on Lincoln Continental

Hi try using a good quality electrical spray around the base of the steering wheel where it meets the shroud. debris falls in here and clogs up the copper connector which goes around the column / steering wheel. DO NOT HAVE IGNITION ON FOR THIS JOB. just turn key enkugh to take it off the steering lock. If you have a compressed air blower then use it afterwards. If not, leave it a couple of hrs before testing. This may need to be done a couple of times,. if fault still occurs, it needs to be scanned by a diagnostic technician to see what fault codes come up. cheers Roger

What is causing left front caliper to continually fail. Is it related to anti lock brake system?

The hose could be collapsed internally holding residual pressure and keping the pads applied. Also make sure that the caliper is sliding free side to side.

Knocking engine

You may have pumped a tank of bad gas originally. It might have had water in it along with some other bad stuff. The knocking could have been the water - water will not compress like gasoline will. I think I would take a sample of whats in the tank and examine it. You may have to try flushing out the fuel system including the injectors.

Cooling fan does not engage

You should not rely on the dash gauge for the temp. You should check it with a known good thermometer. The water pump may also have worn impellers.

My 1998 lincoln continental is smoking burning and through oil.but none of my warning lights are indicating something is wrong what could this be?

Heavy use of engine oil and a nasty smelling smoke usually means the piston rings and cylinder bores are worn out or if you only get smoke on a closed throttle it can point to failed valve stem seals, (cheaper to fix but may point to other wear problems about to show up). The oil pressure warning light is not coming on because the crank shaft and bottom end of the engine are still (possibly) ok.
