Had some work done, now getting the whine
Power steering whines are created by air inside the pump housing. They had started the engine then filled the power steering system so the internal vanes were running dry and has damaged them . So adding a small amount of gear oil (4 oz.) 80-90w can silence the pump. But look at fluid in rev.tank with car running turn wheel back and forth several times if bubbles are in fluid or foamy fluid you have a suction leak. find source of air entering system and fix first.
Tapping noise when engine switched off and key
After running/run on:carbon deposits in the combustion chambers (absorbing fuel then releasing it), low octane fuel (get's fired latter) , overheated engine (enough for self ignition), or spark plugs with too high of a heat range rate. Can be also :key ignition barrel (the inner switch),worn pistons ring/worn valve sealers (firing oil that appears in the chamber, kinda like diesel),main relay mulfunction (does not cut the fuel/ignition).Cheers,hope u share if figure out.
2004jaguar s-type 4.2 liter water leak in back of
there are 2 hoses that run under the inlet manifold that are prone to failing. also the plastic tower at the front of the inlet manifold on top of the engine can leak from its o ring seal where it bolts to the cyl, block. have a look if you can see coolant under the inlet manifold, you may have to remove the manifold to locate the problem area. hope this helps. i am a retired jag. technician.ps. there are also coolant hoses on the throttle body that can fail.
Check engine light
Go to an auto parts store to get your fault codes read. Find one that will read the codes for free like Autozone, O'Rielly or Advance Auto. But before you do that check to make sure your fuel filler cap is on tightly and that the seal around it is in good condition. It could take a few days of your normal driving pattern before the light resets after fixing the fuel filler cap.
Replacing the coolant reservoir
You only have to burp the system if you are going to flush the system. If your just replacing reservoir make sure to replace any water loss. Then start it and check the coolant level again to make sure it's full.
Engine light on
could be anything with these cars and my favourite trick is to disconnect the battery terminals and join them together ,leave for ten mins and all lights go out and it resets the immobilisor .
Starter motor
if its a diesel the the starter motor will be contaminated with dust from the dual mass flywheel breaking up and will need renewing along with the clutch and flywheel, if it is a petrol check the battery and wiring if thats ok its the starter motor you should also check the battery etc if its a diesel before changing anything
Why is it difficult to get x-type into reverse. It is a manual 5 speed., 2004 Jag
Most common cause is a worn clutch ,but obvious your american and not used to manual gearboxes as their is a knack for this and that is lift clutch a bit as you pull it into reverse or if the fault is in the gearbox stop the engine put in reverse and restart engine ,also select reverse more slowly ,ever seen inside a gearbox and how the reverse works ? lots of extreme pressure on the changing mechanism .
What are an m.a.f and an e.g.r on the jag 2.0d
m.a.f is mass air flow, sensor located in induction pipe near battery, check wires at sensor connector as these are prone to braking.E.G.R. is exhaust gas recirculation.valve located at left front of engine as you look under bonnet and are prone to getting clogged and sticking, may need renewing, failure causes excess exhaust smoke.
