1991 Jaguar XJ6 Soverign 4.0 Water in the engine oil
Get engine warm and do a compression test. This easily eliminates head gasket. Head gasket is a biggish job and time wasted if it is not the problem. Part throttle breather unlikely as this is a vacuum applied to the cam cover, so water is unlikely to get in there as the air is coming out of the engine. But, if water is in the inlet manifold, could it be the inlet manifold to head gasket? I can't remember for sure, but I think this is water heated? If so, that is probably your culprit. If not, it sounds like a top end water leak and unlikely to be head gasket, head gasket leaks nearly always show up as steam out of the exhaust - "white smoke". Hope this helps.
93 xj6 stalled at a light, can't be driven
The first thing I would check in a situation like this is the Fuel Pump.
Your fuel pump is physically inside the Gas Tank (which is located between the rear seats and the trunk/spare tyre).
However, the control unit for the fuel pump/motor is right on top of the tank. My experienced mechanic gave mine a couple of bumps with a small object (like a small pipe to reach the box) to kick it back into operation.
Here's a quick 15 minute test:
Try this: keep the tank -Filled Up- this will help to cool the Fuel Pump which sits in gas inside the tank.
-Put your keys in the ignition and turn to stage2 (right before you begin to turn the engine over),
-Go around to your trunk and give the Fuel Pump a couple bumps with a tool that will not hurt it (it is covered in solid plastic).
-Then try cranking the engine while pressing down on the gas pedal, one of three things will happen, 1) The engine turns over and everything is gravy! 2) It cranks but doesn't start up 3) It cranks but doesn't start and you can smell gas from the engine bay.
If #2 is you: then your fuel pump has hit some scummy **** and doesn't want to work without repair or cleaning, try giving it another knock or two with the electrics in the car turned on. Maybe have a friend crank the car while you -tap- on the fuel pump.
If #3 is you: Check your spark plugs, they could be misfiring.
If all above fails I would start thinking that you engine idle valve is dirty and needs a quick clean.
Best luck!

My check engine light is on. The VCM says: PAO.
The PAO you see on your dash in the VCM (Vehicle Condition Monitor) *is really* -PAD-.
I had the same beacon on my 1991 XJ6, it refers to the brake pads being worn.
Fuse 3 is a notice that there is a misbehaving fuse in your 3rd fuse box, which is located inside the center console (armrest)
Best of Luck!

Removal of the petrol tank
The 93 xj6 tank is in the trunk behind the spare tire and battery, While there are two straps holding it, they will not be rusty because they are inside the trunk. After disconnecting everything in the trunk, jack up the car (use jack stands) crawl under and disconnect the two clips holding the fuel lines to the tank. There are two holes in the trunk under the tank that let the lines through.
Now the tank will pull right out.

There is no way to get at it otherwise.
Thanks for using FixYa.

The gas tank will need to be dropped to access the fuel pump.
Are you sure that is the problem?
Have you tested the fuel pressure and measured the flow?

I have a 1993 XJ6 Jaguar Soverign that has the fuel pump out.
I had this problem several years ago. Found a new fuel pump for about $20.00. Removed tank and discovered it was a bayonet connector in the wire harness $(70.00) not the motor. I had to lower the drive shaft to get to the fastners which tie the tank to the bottom of the trunk. I still have the motor; will consider selling it. (903 732-3912). - Philip
Can anyone tell me what the cost to repair A/C
i will do it for 30€ no you cant do it yourself it requires a special machine----also it holds 1.47kg of R134 gas .why is it leaking perhaps the the seals need changing because r 134 gas attacks the seals which should be a putty coloured .if their black then these are only for r 12 gas .94 was the change over period from the gas types r 134 has a big radiator and r 12 has a small one in the top right hand corner
