Invest in a cheap fault code reader from Amazon or eBay which will help you pinpoint the problem
Fail safe engine mode
you will need to get the fault codes out of the engine control module to help sort this one tipical causes are air leaks or throttle body problems.
Check engine with error codes P1111 and P0455
The Code 455 is showing the large leak in the Evaporative system (gascap) and the Code 1111 shows there are no defects. You can get these codes wiped off with a scanner free at Autozone, Oreilys, or Advance. They may clear by themselves after 35 startups. It would just appear to be a latent record of the old condition before and after you tightened the gascap.

DTC P1642 is for a loss in CAN communication. You will need to read the codes from the other modules to see which one is the culprit. From your description is does sound like the CAN network went down. It may be a problem with the inertia switch. It may have partially tripped causing this problem.
See your owner manual for the location of your inertia fuel cutoff switch. It cuts off power to the fuel pump in an accident.
CAN is the communication network where all teh computers in your car talk to one another. There appears to be a problem intermittently here.
