I have a stick shift car. the shifter came loose
What you speak of is called a hiem joint. There has to be a sleeve or ring still on the trans rod the holds the ball in the socket. Look on the shift rod and see is it still there. If yes, pop the ball back in the socket and the ring back in on the ball, Find out what holds the ring in against the ball and fix that.
I have a 1998 Saturn SC1 1.9 LT. SOHC. CODES:
CODE PO341 IS CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSOR SIGNAL RANGE PERFORMANCE CONDITIONS. CODE PO401 IS INSUFFICIENT EGR FLOW DETECTED CONDITIONS. CLEAN CARBON BUILD UP OUT EGR SOLENOID PORT HOLE IN THE INTAKE MANIFOLD.REPLACE THE EGR VALVE SOLENOID GASKET.ANY TIME DISTURB REMOVE GASKET.IF YOU REUSE OLD EGR VALVE GASKET YOU WILL GET VACUUM LEAK CAUSE HIGH IDLING PROBLEMS. WHEN REPLACING SPARK PLUGS. USE WHAT FACTORY CALL FOR.YOU NEED AC TYPE PLUGS. IF THEY WHERE PLATINUM PLUGS YOU HAVE TO REPLACE WITH SAME PLATINUM PLUGS.
Can shift without applying brakes
There should be a cable that goes from the key lock to the shifter. That cable may be broken. There should also be a lock solenoid that requires you to push on the brake pedal to get the shifter out of park.You would need to disassemble the console to get access to the shifter and then inspect these components.

check the wires. check the connector. Make sure the bulb is the correct one. Use a test light or voltmeter VDC 12 volt to test the circuit. Good luck.
