What are the steps to replace crankshaft position?

the crank sensor is located down at the bottom of the engine next to the crank. You have to remove the bottom pulley and the bottom cover to access it. Here is a diagram of it's location. Hope this helps! 2010-07-09_005642_capture.png

Kia Sorento

Question: does the sign IMMO (yellow) light disappear after some seconds of ignition turned on? If not you may have to close your car with your keys, than open them with the keys, than start your engine. Should work if you are experiencing the above problem... Just an idea.

Have verified that my newly purchased 03 kia

Yes the 03 and up sorento has a keyless remote entry, You do not need to reset the ECU, you however need to reprogram the remote trasmitter to your car so they communicate, otherwise it will never work if you do not program it. You will need to take this to a kia dealership with the remote transmitter. They may or may not charge you for a fee. However I did had a remote, and it became damaged when my kid drop it in the fish tank. I was able to get it done at the dealship, 35 for the remote, and 50 for service fee. I did however found some link referal to manually do it yourself, Please check this forum out http://www.kia-forums.com/2003-2010-sorento-forum/34549-remote-keyless-entry.html. For me, I did not bother, because I did not want to take the chance to mess up something else.

2003 Kia Sorento 4 wheel drive will not disengage

Best way to fix it is to lift one side of the car using a jack. Get front and back wheels off the ground. Then put the car into neutral and out of four wheel drive into 2 wheel high ratio. Start the car and rev it up to about 3000rpm for a short while. It should then release the four wheel drive. It gets stuck mainly because of transmission wind up. Ie tension in the transmission.

Fitting towbar electrics

Hi, I'm Peter, You do not need to access a panel to wire up the electrics for the tow bar on a 2003 Kia Sorento . I don't know if you have the tow bar yet or not but there is a bolt in model for the Sorento 4 bolts and your done it's on there too. The wiring is as simple also. Kia actually has a wiring harness that all you do is plug it into the existing plug and you have a ground wire to attach which they also have already on the car. I just got through swapping the same setup from one 2003 to another in about 20-30 minutes, I had an impact gun though for the tow bar bolts. The wiring you are looking for is located between the frame and the body of the car on the passenger side. As you lay on your back you will see it is connected to the frame with a push in connector or tie wrap I can't remember right at this moment it's 1:30 AM. Just get it loose from the frame and disconnect the plug that will continue on up towards the right rear tail light.. Take your harness ( believe me it's worth getting from the dealership) and plug it in between the other two connectors. Like I said earlier you will have a black ground wire and if you look on the car body portion you will see a bolt hole located a little past half way of the flat vertical area , that is where the ground wire goes. There may be after market harnesses just like the one the dealership has but I already had one so I know everything fits perfect and the trailer plug end will go across to the driver side of the center of the hitch where they normally are. I have to tell you it was one of the easiest setups I have ever done and I have head remarkable stories about how strong those hitches are when other vehicles run into them. The other vehicle is destroyed and the tow bar protected the KIA. If your going to do it do it right and easy. Good Luck.

Kia four wheel stays on

Their is a fault with the electronics on the vehilces four wheel drive electrical circuits. This will bring up the malfunction indicator light, you will need to see a dealer with an electronics reader to find out what this fault code is meaning. Most dealers will read it for free, and then charge for the repair from that point. If it is an orange light, just get it to a dealer when you are able to. If it is a red light, avoid driving it and get to a dealer ASAP. this will prevent any possible further electrical damage and any other mechanical damage from what ever the fault maybe. Also, their is a safety issue if the fault is relating to a safety feature of the car. It is hard to pin point an exact fault and exact cost. Cost will vary with the type of fault and repair required. Goodluck!

Gas pumps problems

I am guessing this is on a Sorento ? First of all let's trouble shoot in case someone else is having the same problem I am guessing that you have previously checked the fuel safety switch located on the right fender well in the engine compartment. I will have a round black rubber cover, push it if It clicks great you just reset it and maybe fixed your problem for free. This switch is a magnetic held in place ball that upon a really bad bump ( I had a RF tie blow out) or a wreck the ball is knocked off it's seat breaking the electrical connection that feeds power directly to the fuel pump. Use a test light or multimeter to make sure you have voltage through the switch. Next thing check the 15 amp fuel fuse (located under the fuse/relay box left rear of engine compartment) . It is one of he micro fuses 3rd row from the left 4th row down not counting the Main 120 AMP fuse. Check it with a meter sometimes a fuse, bulb, relay, wire, or connection will look good but will be bad. You need to check the Fuel Relay is row on the left 9th position down or 2nd from the bottom. Quickest way is take any relay near it has the same number on top and swap them to see if the pump begins to work and if the one you swapped with stopped. Then you know the relay is bad. If it still works If so open the right rear passenger door the look at the base of the front of the bottom portion of the seat. Thee will be two bolts remove them then you should be able to lift up the front of the seat and wiggle it from under the bottom of the back part of the seat. Now you will see a rectangle panted black lid remove the retaining fasteners and pop up. It will have a little water tight sealant so you may have to use a standard screwdriver top pop it up. Underneath you will see the top of your fuel tank and the fuel pump. You can just order the tiny little pump on the whole assembly and drive yourself mad with frustration and lost time or just get the whole assembly which I highly recommend and install it in a couple of minutes and be done with it back t sipping a cup of coffee or a beer. All he connectors are different shaped so unless you failed shapes in kindergarten you should not get the mixed up as they will not fit any other way. Lift the pump out and you will have to turn it at an angle to allow for the fuel level arm. Make sure while you are at it your car has a separate filter there n the whole next to then it should have little sock type on the pump assembly. Now as most manuals say reverse the process. Be sure though before you put the seat back in have someone turn the key on and you should hear the fuel pump click and pump just for a second until line pressure is met. I hope covered every thing and t works out for you. Let me know if you got it going or if you Have any more questions. Peter

Is there a recall for the crank shaft for the Kia

There is a problem with the bolt that holds the Harmonic Balancer on the crank shaft and Kia will have to replace it. Be forewarned it may have to be done more than once so if it happens to it a second time stick to your guns and make them cover it. The bolt will shear off and the balancer will freewheel if you are lucky if you are not luck then a host of other problems can occur from crankshaft damage to a damaged fan shroud and radiator if it works it's way completely off but most likely it will just spin or damage the crank shaft. This should not be a DYI because if you do it and it comes off again you have no recourse if they know you have already done the work so this would be a silence is golden time. This affects several year models of the 3.5. You can find the service letter on the internet I had it but it's not that hard to find . You have to remember there is a difference between a RECALL and a SERVICE LETTER. The Recall will be sent out to all the owners the service letter is only for the dealership shop so unless you happen to have the vehicle in there for something else they may or may not mention it. A good Service Writer will catch it and suggest it done and you would be well advised to have it done because it will fail at any time and leave you stranded. Believe me there are lot of Service letters out on almost every vehicle it is the way the Car makers say oops we have a problem shops let's try to fix it before it becomes lawsuit material and they are backed into a corner where the problem is life threatening and they are forced to issue an official recall which will cost them a lot of money and bad publicity. Hope this answers your question as I tend to be long winded but knowledge is power when dealing with Dealerships.
