Engine misfiring sputtering

EGR, TPS, or IAC, but it may be an intake manifold gasket getting bad, that is providing you have good plugs and wires. You didnt include enough info for a proper diagnosis

99 saturn sl runs rough. like its missing, changed the plugs but only helped for a day.

Try cleaning the EGR valve. It's located at the right hand side of motor, beside the valve cover. It is round tubular and has a plug going to it.. first take your air filter hose off flat head screwdriver Remove the plug from the EGR. There is then 2 10mm bolts to take out to remove EGR. When you pull EGR off, be careful not to damage gasket. Inspect gasket for wear as well. Should be replaced anyway. When you get this out take your finger and push the plunger in. At THIS time, take notice if the valve is sticky. If it's hard to push in, or sticks at all, this is the time to tell, because once it's pushed in once, it will unfreeze itself and you will never know if it was sticking. With a screw driver push plunger in and out to free it up. The spring should be strong enough to push plunger out, and seal the hole. You can clean the plunger up with engine cleaner. Replace the opposite as removal. The EGR is responsible for the recycling of the exhaust fumes, and can cause this if it is dirty or bad. The next thing you have to do, is remove the throttle body and clean it. Easy as well. the throttle body is on the other end of the air filter hose. 2 10mm bolts as well. First pull vacuum hose off the top being careful not to lose the rubber gromet in between. Once that is off, remove the 2 bolts and be careful of the gasket there too. Once TB is free, turn it and disconnect the cable. When the EGR is bad, the backside of this TB gets carboned up. There are 2 sensors on the TB. One is the IAC [ idle air sensor ] and the TPS [ throttle positioning sensor ] Remove these with a torx 20 socket or screwdriver. You will see on the bottom sensor an O ring. Be careful not to lose it. You will then see another plunger , mushroom shaped thing. Do not force this to move, just clean it thoroughly, and clean the jet of the TB where this part seats. You can just leave the TPS on the TB, as that doesn't seem to be part of the problem. Clean TB good. Look at and clean the 2 holes for vacuum, and scrape and clean the backside of the TB. Put her all back together and Voila!! Car should work better. If that is the problem, great, if not I can guide you to further tests Let me know

Why does my 99 saturn sl idle erradically sometimes?

One of 4 things. Your TPS [throttle positioning sensor] IAC [ idle air sensor ] vacuum leak, or intake manifold gasket getting bad.Easy test for you to do before you get into replacing parts is as follows. Start car, and take some engine cleaner spray, and spray directly onto the gasket where the intake manifold bolts onto the block. Spray liberally. If you hear the engine RPM'S change in ANY way, your gasket is bad. These cars are well known for this. I suggest that you try this first and get back to me. If this is not it, I can walk you through the next easy tests. Let me know, but if I were a gambling man, I'd gamble on it being the intake gasket. $40, and 2 hours to do it yourself. I also made a video while I was doing my own. Let me know if this info is helpful

My 99 saturn is leaking waterand the thermostat light comes on but isnt overheating. I fill the overflow and its fine but now the overflow doesnt keep water.

If you are leaking water you must first find out where it is coming from. If this vehicle has the 1.9L single overhead cam, they are known for waterpump failure. The water pump usually will make a rattling sound when it gets bad, and has a hole for leakage if it is shot. Look in the engine compartment, on the left [ pass] side at the bottom of the serpentine belt. The pulley to the right of the bottom pulley is the water pump.. Inside your right side wheel well there is a plastic guard that simply pulls out and off so that you can inspect or change the pump. You may want to take this off so that you can see what's going on there. If the pump is leaking or bad you will see it and or hear it with the motor running. With this inspection cover off, you will be able to inspect the hoses as well. If you don't see anything leaking, you may want to inspect your heater core hoses. This is oin the firewall on the driver's side. You will see 2 smaller 1 1/2 in. hoses. These go to your heater core. Look at them to see if they look like they are leaking. . One last thing to check for in antifreeze leaking out onto the inside floor of the car. Under the drivers feet. This is where the heater core is located and if it takes to leaking, it will drain onto the feet . Check these simple things and if you see something else leaking let me know and I can walk you through it. OH I don't know what you mean by thermostat light. There is a light for low antifreeze, which looks like a radiator, and a temp. light which looks like a thermometer. If you get a leak, the rad one will come on. If the car's overheating , the other one comes on. I hope this helps somewhat, let me know

99 saturn loud revving sound in engine

Start the car and use a spray bottle to spray a bunch of water mist around the top back of the engine where the intake meets the head. If it starts to die you have an intake manifold leak. It\'s kind of a pain to change, but not really technical. Also, clean your throttle body and clean the idle air controller (IAC). Alos consider replacing the Throttle position sensor (TPS). Both are located on the back of the throttle body.
