99 saturn sl runs rough. like its missing, changed the plugs but only helped for a day.
Try cleaning the EGR valve. It's located at the right hand side of motor, beside the valve cover. It is round tubular and has a plug going to it.. first take your air filter hose off flat head screwdriver Remove the plug from the EGR. There is then 2 10mm bolts to take out to remove EGR. When you pull EGR off, be careful not to damage gasket. Inspect gasket for wear as well. Should be replaced anyway. When you get this out take your finger and push the plunger in. At THIS time, take notice if the valve is sticky. If it's hard to push in, or sticks at all, this is the time to tell, because once it's pushed in once, it will unfreeze itself and you will never know if it was sticking. With a screw driver push plunger in and out to free it up. The spring should be strong enough to push plunger out, and seal the hole. You can clean the plunger up with engine cleaner. Replace the opposite as removal. The EGR is responsible for the recycling of the exhaust fumes, and can cause this if it is dirty or bad. The next thing you have to do, is remove the throttle body and clean it. Easy as well. the throttle body is on the other end of the air filter hose. 2 10mm bolts as well. First pull vacuum hose off the top being careful not to lose the rubber gromet in between. Once that is off, remove the 2 bolts and be careful of the gasket there too. Once TB is free, turn it and disconnect the cable. When the EGR is bad, the backside of this TB gets carboned up. There are 2 sensors on the TB. One is the IAC [ idle air sensor ] and the TPS [ throttle positioning sensor ] Remove these with a torx 20 socket or screwdriver. You will see on the bottom sensor an O ring. Be careful not to lose it. You will then see another plunger , mushroom shaped thing. Do not force this to move, just clean it thoroughly, and clean the jet of the TB where this part seats. You can just leave the TPS on the TB, as that doesn't seem to be part of the problem. Clean TB good. Look at and clean the 2 holes for vacuum, and scrape and clean the backside of the TB. Put her all back together and Voila!! Car should work better. If that is the problem, great, if not I can guide you to further tests Let me know
