Brake line diagram

Brake Lines and Hoses
Double-walled steel line is used in the hydraulic lines between the brake master cylinder and the front tube connector, and between the brake master cylinder and the flexible brake hose at the rear wheels.
Double-flared brake lines provide good leak-proof connections.
When replacing hydraulic brake lines, hoses, or connectors, tighten all connections securely. After replacement, bleed the brake system; refer to Section 206-00 .
The wet appearance of the outer cover of the rubber brake hose is referred to as "sweating." This is a normal condition for neoprene rayon braid hose and is not a sign of leakage or cause for replacement of the hose.

My Mercury Sable 2000 will

The car's computer has put it in "limp mode", which is a function that will allow you to drive the vehicle home or to be repaired. My advice is to take it to a transmission shop and have it tested before you do more costly harm.

Most big auto parts chains will give you a free diagnostic once a trouble code appears. Then you know which O2 sensor is bad or if another problem.

How to adjust headlights on a 98 mercury tracer

There are usually 2 hex screws on each lens. The State Vehicle inspections govern how headlights are suppose to be aimed if you live in a State requiring Annual inspections. For this reason, I would suggest looking at Youtube videos or finding a CD at an autoparts store which include this process. In general, you would park between 20 or 30 feet from a wall or garage door and shine your low beams on the surface. Get a piece of tape to use as a marker for each beam to mark the starting point from the brightest point of each beam. Then measure the height of the center of each headlight and compare to the tape mark and how high it is on the door or wall. If the center of the headlight is higher than the mark on the wall, GOOD. What you want is the drivers' beam to point away from oncoming traffic and farther forward on your direction of travel not to become cross-eyed with the passengers' beam. Seek to not have a dark spot in the center of your travel. The passenger beam usually shifts to the curbside and up because of parked cars and no one to blind with your lights. Personally I like to adjust my passenger headlamp beam to highlight the lane markers and center my car in my lane on the Interstate. This is particularly useful in foggy or rainy driving conditions and around curves. A body shop or collision shop can probably do this for you for a reasonable price as replacing the front sheet metal of a vehicle can require reaiming the lights.

I have a 1998 mercury tracer it has been giving me alot of problems latley i am planning on getting ready to buy a new car in febuary but i need this one to last a little longer the car runs ok but so

You can in most cases repair this slow speed stall or unstable idle by cleaning the engine throttle valve and the idle speed control valve using a product called CRC Spray Throttle valve cleaner. Spray the cleaner into the air intake of the engine with the hose removed from the throttle body, the engine will try to stall so hold up the idle speed manually. Once you have used up about 1/2 can of the cleaner stall the engine out while spraying and turn the key off, disconnect the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and then reconnect and drive the car for a about 25 miles of varied driving modes. If this doesn't cure the problem you may need the fuel injectors professionally cleaned by the dealer service dept.

1998 mercury tracer:oil light not on but the engine sounds like it is not getting oil to the top.

Are all the valve follower making noise? If so you may have a plugged oil passage. Try pouring in a can of "BERRYMAN'S CHEMTOOL" (get it at the auto parts store), it may dissolve the sludge and gunk and quiet the noise, if not it will need to have the valve cover removed and an inspection performed.

Service engine light on

When the Check Engine light or Service engine soon light is turned on the computer control unit (called the PCM) has sensed a fault in the electronic controls of the engine and/or the emission system. When this happens you will seldom feel the car engine run any different. There are about 200 possible faults that turn the Check Engine light on, to know what has developed a problem you must have the system tested, this is called an OBD2 fault code test, Kragen and Autozone parts stores do this testing for free.
