The alternator is not putting out enough power

The only thing to do is try tightening the belt, If you have a gauge, it should be showing more charge than it is now, after tightening. If it is just a light, it will light with no charge. You might have to replace it. Hope this helps.

It surges when idling, and

hi the EGR would most likely trigger the engine light and you would be loosing a lot of power, very noticable, I would check your earth battery lead and ensure it has a good contact to the car body.

Also check the air pipes for any rips or poor seals that might be taking in to much air.

Worth mentioning you can clean both the air mass sensor and the EGR with carb cleaner, this sometimes helps or at least will give you an idea if thats the fault. What make and model is the car?

Have you changed both the idle control valve and the air mass sensor?
please clarify

Light on dash says pgm-f1, what does this mean

These three websites should help you out tremendously with your third generation Honda Accord. According to the top two forums, there is a box under your drivers seat which you will need to access from the back of the seat by folding it up and sliding it forward. There should be a small hatch on the box. Behind the hatch are some LED lights that will be blinking if the ignition is on and the PGM-F1 light is still on. This sequence of blinking is a code and you will need a book for the car to tell you what this code means, or a dealer can tell you. This will let you know why the light is on and what needs to be fixed.

I recommend becoming a member of www.3geez.com as they deal specifically with the year range of your car. If anyone knows answers to your questions, they will.

Good Luck!

How to adjust choke on 87 honda accord

It might just need cleaning. Spray some PB Blaster around the throttle arm where the cable connects to at the base of the carb, and see if that frees up the flaps. And while spraying, fiddle with the throttle linkage.
