How do you remove a cigarette lighter socket
I'm assuming this is the lighter in the center console by the beverage holder? If not I'll need more details.
.
First you have to make sure the power is cut to it, so either pull the fuse or disconnect the battery. Warning, disconnecting the battery WILL reset things like radio settings and clocks.
.
Now get yourself a flat-head screwdriver. You want to carefully unsnap the front of the beverage holder console, and once the front is unsnapped you can lift it to unsnap the rear of the beverage holder console and remove it.
.
.
Now grasp the top part of the cigarette lighter's panel and pull it straight out. Make sure you don't yank on the electrical connections. I'd suggest unplugging them so you can work on the lighter easier.
.
.
From there you simply have to unscrew the retainer from the socket and remove the lighter.
.
If you're installing a new one, just reverse the process.
How do you change fluid in power steering system
You raise the front of the car & support it if necessary,
to put a bottle under it,such as an old washer fluid bottle
Then remove the steering pump return hose from the fluid
container
Put that hose into some plastic tubing & into the empty bottle
Remove the injector fuses, so the motor gets no fuel
Crank the motor & the old fluid goes into the bottle
Add new fluid Dex/Merc or Mercon V to make sure the
container has fluid as you flush out the old
When done, return the return hose, clean up & start the motor
Turn wheels lock to lock a couple times, put it on the ground
& check the fluid level
Change trans & power steering every 3 years or they will
fail for sure.
Those two fluids will not remove heat after 2 or 3 years
in service.
Serpentine belt does not turn
Take belt off , turn each item Alternator, slack adjuster etc. , by hand with keys out of car except crank and camshaft. the one that can not be turned by hand is the defective item. Replace same.
Have 1999 Mercury Sable and failed emissions for P0401 code, I replaced the EGR Valve and had the code reset, service engine light came on again Approx 15 miles later. Took it to Auto Zone and they g
I am not surprized. The chances that replacing an EGR valve will fix a code P0401 on ANY Ford vehicle is about 1/2 of 1 percent. You most likely either have clogged up EGR ports in your intake manifold, or you have a defective Delta Pressure Feedback EGR (DPFE) sensor. To find out which it is, apply vacuum to the EGR valve vacuum port with the engine idling. The engine should stumble and/or stall. If it does not, your ports are clogged. If it does, the most likely cause of your problem is the DPFE sensor. However, the EGR vacuum control solenoid could also be the cause. You cannot properly test the EGR vacuum control solenoid without the proper equipment, but you can check to make sure that there is manifold vacuum going into one side of the solenoid and you can check to make sure that there are no breaks or leaks in the line that runs between the solenoid and the valve. If you find any of these, repair as necessary. If you do not find a problem with the vacuum lines, then you can take a "guess" and replace the DPFE. If this does not work, then you can "guess" again and replace the solenoid. If it still does nort work, then you probably have a bad electrical circuit to the solenoid (once again, requiring the proper equipment to diagnose). Please also review the following article:
What Else Could Be Wrong?
Obd2 codes p0401 and p1744
P1744 -transmission intermittent/torque converter is a manufactures code;they have that problem, like the wipers coming on.
P0401-egr valve flow insufficient;replace or remove, spray B-12 on and around all openings;clean let dry new gasket.
1999 mercury sable engine code
for p0401:
In fixing this code, it is quite common for people to just replace the EGR valve only to have the OBD code return. The EGR valve is not always the culprit.
Use a vacuum pump and pull the EGR valve open while monitoring engine RPM's & DPFE voltage. There should be a noticable difference in RPM's with the EGR open.
Clean out the EGR valve and/or tubing to remove deposits.
Check the voltage at the DPFE, compare to specified values (refer to a repair manual for your specific model).
Replace the DPFE sensor (with a good quality / OEM one).
Replace the EGR valve.
This Mercury Sable is my youngest son's car...going to college while trying to keep him on the road. The steam issue seems resolved. Current issue is now the idle. Normally, it idles at around 1.1K
This problem COULD be many things. I would start off by checking your idle/air control valve which should be located on the backside of your throttle body. A high idle could indicated a faulty sensor, clogged catalyst(catalytic converter),bad o2 sensor, dirty MAP sensor,as well as your throttle and crankshaft position sensors. To make it simple,as long as your computer isn't popping any codes or showing check engine light,I don't think it's a mechanical,or sensor issue.Try changing out all of your filters, both air, fuel, and oil filters with a fresh oil change as well.Could be something as simple as curving out your ignition timing
Got a code 1742 on my sons mercury sable
Okay this is a internal problem in the transmission you will need to remove side cover and oil pan of the transmission. This is a big job to do it safely you will need a hoist and engine cradel this a profesional job my advice to you unless you have done this before 2 or 3 times take it in for service this is a delicate job mistakes can resault in costly mancanical further repairs.Hope this helps,John
Engine runs rough
Have you checked spark plugs, wires, or distributor/coil pack. If its not that possible maf or map sensor or a clogged fuel filter
Mercury sable leaking water
This is not necessarily a bad thing. It is a quantitative thing. Excessive water vapor is bad. Normal condensation is unavoidable.
If the exhaust is sweet smelling and the vapor forms clouds then there is a problem. If both puddles are about the size of coffee cup saucers it should be normal.
Bypass an internal voltage regulator
I have never heard of this being done. You may be able to get an internal regulator and replace it yourself. There are some videos with tips like holding the brushes in place with a paperclip. Back in the 70's you could get an internal voltage regulator at Kmart. This was a real common repair.
Drivers door wont latch
I would try lube first. Cold weather can cause parts to get stuck.
Normally a door latch will outlast the car, but it could be wearing out.
