Please Help!!! 1999 Mercury Sable doesn't seem to accelerate past first gear..engine revs up to very high rpms.

If the speedometer stops working the odometer stops also. Sounds like it is stuck in first gear. The RPM went up because the throttle was response to pedal but transmission not response. Check transmission fluid color. Whip off dipstick on a white paper towel look for gray if see any that is metal shavings and transmission is bad.

Headlights only hi beams work

Probably Fuse, Relay, column switch. I'd start wth the fuse, then check the relay. (Assuming the driving beams work.) There should be a relay box under the hood, likely drivers side. If you're mechanical, you can swap the relay for headlights with another one of the same model/type. Swap temporarily, and if lights then work, just replace th relay for the light.

Every time we but gas in the car,you pump gas for 3 seconds and wait three scs Why

I had a similar problem with a Caddy; after inserting fuel spout, back it off slightly-SLIGHTLY-don't know why it worked, but it sure made my life easier. Maybe the angle of fuel flow changes? At any rate, it usually worked.

How can I remove heater core?

To remove and replace the heater core, you must pretty much tear the dashboard out of the vehicle, including disconnecting and lowering the steering column. Time consuming work, and can result in squeaks and other issues if not done correctly and carefully. Also have to deal with air bags, since they are in the dash and steering column.

How do I repair ignition switch?

Ignition switches are tough customers. Especially on cars with air bags. If you car has an air bag, get a Haynes or Chilton manual to show you what to do. Many times a special tool is needed to remove the steering wheel. If this gets complicated, take it to a recommended shop.

Steam rises from the radiator after car idles for 10 minutes. Replaced thermostat. No improvement. Could this be one of the radiator fans as I noted it does not turn on. The water guage remains wh

If the steam is rising from the radiator and not from the overflow tank or hose then you do have a leak.. in the radiator. check for a cracked tank or fitting where the hoses connect. If it is making steam the guage is probably defective. Find out where that steam is coming from ! If the car is making steam the rad fan should probably be running.. I do not know about your particular car but some times the secon fan only comes on with A/C use or extream heat.

My engine is . 3.0 Vulcan single overhead cam. How do I remove the timing belt cover?

To replace the timing cover on the 3rd Generation is an a time consuming job, but can be done home with the proper tools. First thing to do is unhook the battery. Once that is done you can now begin. Started with trying to drop the Y-pipe, it wasn't happening in my case and for other this will more then likely be the case. The flange stud on the rear were so rusted, there was no nut or threads. For more info please go to: http://www.taurusclub.com/forum/82-maintenance-repair/170789-timing-cover-removal-instructions-3rd-generation.html This could give you an entire idea of the huge job that need to be done i think is better to have a specialist working on it I hope it helps
