I just find this (click over this link for zoom)...9_30_2011_3_42_10_pm.jpg

Fig. Exploded view of the rear drum brake assembly - LINK The rear brakes do not require manual adjustment. Adjust the shoes by sharply applying the brake pedal several times while driving the vehicle alternately forwards and backwards. Check the brake operation by making several stops while driving forward. The self-adjusting mechanism will sufficiently adjust the rear brake shoes without any manual tightening at the brake shoe adjuster. If the rear brake shoes are manually adjusted, the additional action of the brake shoe adjuster can cause the brakes to become over-tightened and result in binding or overheated rear brakes.Hope this helps.

you could have a short in the ignition itself, which as the keys swing back and forth causes a stoppage in the circuit, Mercury has had that problem for years , check all fuses, and with the wipers check the relay also, as far as the lighter,, they will short out , and most car makers suggest not using them for added purposes since they tend to go bad , they were intended to heat a small wire that draws low amperage,, enough to light a cig , some plug in units require more amps and will heat up the socket , which will then short out, causing damage

Where is the freeze plug on a 1998 mercury

On the engine block there are eight of them. They are located in the middle of the block, including on the rear and sides. You can find them as they look like little (1 1/2" - 2") steel cups imbedded into the engine block.

I have power rear vents

go to our site for help.

your owner manual has fuse diagrams.

the qtr windows go through the power window relay. If other windows work, not likely the relay or timer module.

you need 12 volts at this wire on the overhead console switches.

  • Measure the voltage between the power rear quarter glass window regulator control switch C903 , "O/BK" and ground.

  • If no 12 v, SERVICE the "O/BK" wire between the power window relay and the power rear quarter glass window regulator control switch.
The ower window relay is above and behind the fuse panel on the dash. 2 relays and turn signal flasher in same area. Turn signal light on to locate flasher. 2 bolts hold bracket with relays & flasher.
