1997 Mercury Grand Marquis - Answered Questions & Fixed issues
My 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis will not start. I
When you say it wont start, it wont crank even a little bit? any clicking? i would look for an issue with the starter if the wires are getting hot, you could have a corroded ground wire which would cause a backup of electricity making the wire hot(simply put)

1997 Mercury Grand Marquis won't start and electrical goes out
You may have a bad connection where the battery grounds to the frame and/or engine. Check the cable running from the negative battery post to where it bolts to the car. It should be clean and very tight - no corrosion. If you can see the connection, watch it while someone tries to engage the starter. See if it sparks, or starts to smoke or glow a dull red. If so, the connection needs to be cleaned up very well.

Radio fuse has blown need to know which one it is
there should be a 'legend' on fuse box cover identifying locations specific to your model.blown fuses are readily identified when removed & inspected. after market radios usually have an 'inline' fuse on the power supply wire as well.

I have a 97 Grand Marquis, and tried to start it.
the lock isnt turning the back part which is the contact switch, use a screwdriver to turn it off or disconnect the battery. I think the problem lies in the barrel is got a piece broken that goes from the barrel to the contact switch .Without seeing it myself i couldnt tell you whats wrong or why the barrel has come out but their is a small hole in the case where you can push in to remove the barrel but in all honesty ask a local mechanic to have a look for you as this mat be beyond the average hme mechanic to sort out also their is a security reader that reads the chipped key callled a transponder so a local mechanic who knows what hes doing is your best best .Sorry if this appears a negative answer but as stated i would need vehicle in front of me to diagnose the correct repair.

97 Merc Grand Marquise just started a loud
If sound comes from under the dash, it might be an hvac actuator that is having a problem? Sometimes you can put your hand on it and feel the vibration? Sometimes with a relay, you can do the same thing.

Besides the ignition switch what else could be bad when the starter engages but won't start. Radio, dash and windows do not operate at the same time.
Must be in the key switch . Logically any way
hi Gary how are you. Frustrated I bet , sorry for your woes man electrical problems are tough and sometimes for myself Even though I have a masters in electrical.
Lets see Gary I'm only speculating but when you roll the switch to the on position only this should close the contacts in the switch and provide power to all accessories , widows , lights on dash and other switched components . Also this will close the start circuit sending 12 v + to the coil or ignition system and is now waiting for the crank circuit when you roll the switch forward to turn over starter. So try this , if you roll the switch back to the accessories position you are primarily doing the same thing as rolling it forward in first position EXCEPT minus the start circuit. Roll it back and see if you have all power to other components , ie windows,
wipers , lights . If so then your switch is faulted . It's worn or the contacts are burned out and is reason for not starting motor because no continuous 12 v to ignition system . REPLACE SWITCH . ...,.. I HOPE THIS HELPS . let us know in the comment box . We all can learn from results one enters .......
Best to Ya man ..........,A. G.
