Were is the oxy senser located??
For 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L SFI 8cyl the Oxygen Sensor is located under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, mounted in exhaust pipe in rear of catalytic converter.
Besides the ignition switch what else could be bad when the starter engages but won't start. Radio, dash and windows do not operate at the same time.
Must be in the key switch . Logically any way
hi Gary how are you. Frustrated I bet , sorry for your woes man electrical problems are tough and sometimes for myself Even though I have a masters in electrical.
Lets see Gary I'm only speculating but when you roll the switch to the on position only this should close the contacts in the switch and provide power to all accessories , widows , lights on dash and other switched components . Also this will close the start circuit sending 12 v + to the coil or ignition system and is now waiting for the crank circuit when you roll the switch forward to turn over starter. So try this , if you roll the switch back to the accessories position you are primarily doing the same thing as rolling it forward in first position EXCEPT minus the start circuit. Roll it back and see if you have all power to other components , ie windows,
wipers , lights . If so then your switch is faulted . It's worn or the contacts are burned out and is reason for not starting motor because no continuous 12 v to ignition system . REPLACE SWITCH . ...,.. I HOPE THIS HELPS . let us know in the comment box . We all can learn from results one enters .......
Best to Ya man ..........,A. G.
Mercury grand marquis 1997 temperature control
I'm not sure if yours is identical to mine since yours is second gen and mine is third gen, but with mine (1998 MGM), the heat was stuck on all the time. Full heat would practically cook your feet and you couldn't shut it off.
It was a servo/servo arm that controls the hot/cold mix door. The part was $15. The labor was $700. They had to take the entire dash out of the car to get at the part. Required two more visits due to a missed electrical connection to a daylight sensor and a vacuum issue that made the car stall when put into reverse.
My car had 150K on it at the time. Has 165K on it now. Still runs great and looks great. It's now my wife's auto and I drive a 2006 MGM.
How to replace the brake light switch on a 1997 grand marquis
Hello,
REMOVAL
- Disconnect the wire harness at the connector from the stoplight switch.
NOTE: Locking tab on connector must be lifted before connector can be removed.
- Remove the hairpin retainer and slide the stoplight switch, the push rod and the nylon washers and bushing away from the brake pedal. Remove the stoplight switch by sliding the stoplight switch up/down as required to remove.
NOTE: Since the stoplight switch side plate nearest the brake pedal is slotted, it is not necessary to remove the brake master cylinder push rod and one spacer washer from the brake pedal pin.
INSTALLATION
- Position stoplight switch so that the U-shaped side is nearest the brake pedal and directly over or under the pin. Then slide stoplight switch down or up trapping the master cylinder push rod and black bushing between the stoplight switch side plates. Push stoplight switch and push rod assembly firmly toward brake pedal arm. Assemble outside white plastic washer to pin and install hairpin retainer to trap whole assembly.
CAUTION: Do not substitute other types of pin retainers. Replace only with a production hairpin retainer. Component damage may occur.
- Assemble the wire harness connector to the stoplight switch.
NOTE: Stoplight switch wire harness must have sufficient length to travel with stoplight switch during full stroke of brake pedal. If wire length is insufficient, reroute harness or service as required.
- Check stoplight switch for proper operation.
What type of refrigerant
Should be R134. If you properly assess the pressure in the system you may need something with a sealer/conditioner. If the Freon started leaking out and you catch it before it all leaks out there are less problems.
The biggest problem is with moisture getting into the system. The water vapor will turn to ice and jam up either the pump or clog the hoses at a minimum.
How to bleed brakes
That sounds more like a major leak or a bad master cylinder can you pump the brakes up to a hard pedal with the vehicle off?
