With the doors shut, insert the key into the drivers door lock. Lock and unlock the door 5 times. This should reset the system. If that doesn't work you should contact a qualified repair shop.

check the flywheel sensor, on the belt end of the engine,on the engine block,easy th change over ,that is a good possibility. good luck!

Try cleaning and tightening well the battery connections along with the battery wires to the solenoid and starter motor. Bad connections and low voltage of 12 volts can result in this anomaly.

google the codes you have posted here codes P0303 and P0302 lexus 300 these are cylinder misfire codes. There is a procedure for this but I would suggest you rad that and follow directions before going the compression test route. The other thing you said was that all this started when you ran out of fuel. Could be you burned out the fuel pump or the pump sucked the junk up off the bottom of the tank and is now plugged up. So many choices but if it was me, I would start with the fuel pump before I started tearing into the motor. Hope this helps.

Lx cars are really sensitive towards battery requirements..did y install a right battery? Do you have any mil light in dash?

Check if you have a leak of power steering fluid...if yes...locate the leak...fix it...refill

oh my goodness!, to turn the horn sound (when you unlock the doors) up or down on a 1997 es, reach under the steering wheel under the dash and you'll feel a knob there. turn it. I have this car and found the knob last night, turned it, realized what it was for.

If not labeled in you manual then I would look for the fuse that is for the trailer harness. You may not have a hitch but I would bet you still have the harness.

It may have been cheaper to take it to a shop to get checked first. So many things have been replaced and we do not if done correctly or necessary.

Why didn't you ask your mechanic what this was? I never heard of a PVS. I have heard of a PVC valve, but that is not likely to fail your smog test. Does the car have any trouble codes?
