You should check to see if there is coolant in the holding tank. If not then get some ready mix coolant (50/50) and fill it to full. Run it alittle to see what happens. If you see bubbles in the tank then stop as you probably have a blown head gasket. If no bubbles then remove the radiator cap (once cooled) and fill the radiator. Run it this way keeping an eye on the holding tank. Keep the holding tank at the full mark. Run the heater on full while doing this too help cool while your filling the system. If your holding tank and/or radiator are full then you have a stuck thermistat or something worse. Good luck!
How do you stop an a/c leak by driver's side
An AC leak, is this actual refrigerant or just the air from the blower. It sounds like one of the blower vents has come loose or possibly broken causing the leak. You can use duct tape to seal the vent. If refrigerant lines they will need to be replaced
Same problem
I had the same thing happening in my 99 Volvo v70xc. I researched it to death, took it to several auto-shops, and did some of my own tinkering (several people also seemed to think it was a wiring issue). The problem was fixed by replacing the ABS sensor. It's a small box, just below the large fuse box that lays against the firewall on the drivers side. Yep, I went to a local junk yard, got the part and replaced it myself. $75.00 for the used part, and $7.00 for the special tool it took to install. It is very difficult to remove and install, because of the awkward positioning. The next step up would be ordering the part online, and finding a mechanic that will throw it on. Doing this at a dealership w/ new parts would cost well over a grand (or more). Again, I had the exact same problem. I replaced the ABS sensor and and all of my lights went off, the speedometer quit dropping off, and my traction control quit giving me problems.
1999 Volvo V70 - did NOT come with the elctronic
dont do the ebay thing. once a key has been programmed for a car. it cannot be reprogrammed for YOUR car. you have to go to the dealer.
in this case the dealer has got you!
people sell thier car and keep the extra key. then sell them on ebay. the ebay key will be of no use to your car. but people will buy the keys anyway in desparation because the dealerships charge soo soooo much..
Windows controls on driver's side don't always
Volvos engineers had the brilliant idea for placing theese switches in the door, without thinking of the poor construction of the roof.
You probably have had them filled with water several times, but the switches wont have this water....
I would have bought some wind-visors available on several car-equipment shops, and a new set of switches for the windows.
The buzzing you hear is most likely electric buzzing on the contacts of the switches.
1998 Volvo V70 A/C Intermittent
I had exactly the same problem. When your engine is cold and off check the gap on your ac compressor with a feeler gauge, it should be between 0.3 and 0.5mm. If it is larger you need to re-shim which invloves undoing a nut on the end off the compressor and removing the clutch plate, then removing the appropriate shims (look like washers) then replace. The reason it blows warm after 10 minutes or so is because the ac compressor gets hot and the clutch gap gets too large for the electro-magnetic clutch to engage. Some people would say that you need a new compressor but all you need to do is a re-shim.
2000 volvo s70 cigarette lighter won't work
test the lighter socket itself by putting a everyday common voltage tester or "multi-meter"in it. place the positive wire on the tester to the center of the socket and the negative to the side of the socket. if no voltage reading, keep the positive where it is and move the negative probe on your tester to a new location that you "know" is a negative like a screw on the door jam area. ( find an unpainted surface"). if you get a reading now then you know the negative on the socket is not connected somewhere in the path. do the same with the positive..... good luck.
Can i add refridgerant to ac on my own?
As long as your system uses r-134a and you are able to locate the low pressure side of the AC there should be no problem. Personally I have found that my local Big lots is the cheapest place to purchase the refrigerant. Something to think about before adding refrigerant is to make sure it needs it by either hooking up a gauge and checking the pressure. The easiest and least expensive way to do this would be to purchase the refrigerant with the gauge and hose for filling the AC attached.
Oil pressure problems
First thing, check your timing. That should help with the had starting. Depending on how hot you car got when the gasket went out you could have burned your oil or galded a bearing. Take a long screw driver a put one end of it up to the oil pan and the other side to your ear and listen for knocking or rattling in the bottom end. Sounds like you are going to need a complete engine rebuild.
