Noise when accellerating and turning
Since it is impossible to diagnose a noise on this keyboard I always suggest to posters of noise problems to have a local shop drive the car with you and listen to the noise you say you hear.

My 1996 volvo 850 speedometer just stoped working
HelloThe engine
and automatic transmission and instrument cluster in this vehicles drive train
are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM
(Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the
computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some
exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature
sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in
its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems
memory scanned with a special tool. Once the fault code(s) are read
you then must perform the appropriate diagnostic testing to find and
resolve the problem(s) DO NOT REPLACE ANY PARTS UNTIL A
TRAINED TECHNICAIN HAS DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM TO AVOID SPENDING YOUR
HARD EARNED MONEY ON PARTS THAT MAY NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM

Where is the starter located
The starter motor/solenoid is located to the left of the oil filter. you'll need to have the vehicle up on stands to access it. Remove two wires. Wire #1 is a clip. To release the clip, push down on the small release tab on the backside of the clip assembly and pull apart. Wire # 2 is connected to the solenoid. Pry off the protective cap with a small screwdriver and undo the nut (12mm). From there you're supposed to be able to acces the starter motor bolts from the back side of the bell housing. There are only 2 bolts, each 12mm as well. You will not be able to see the first one, as it is pretty hidden. You will need to use the 12mm socket to mark it. From under the car locate the bolt connecting the starter to the bell housing and place the socket on the other side. Now you can remove it from the hood side of the car. The other bolt will be located near a Transmission bolt. Now you can remove it from under the car. It is easier with 2 people.Buy F150 Parts.

1996 850 wagon turbo rough idle and check engine light on
Tough to determine without the OBD-2 codes. A rough idle can be from a number of things. Clogged injectors, bad sensor, restricted airflow etc.. If you take it to your local auto-parts store you can obtain the codes and report back here. They should do it for free. Most of the time with these cars it is a simple fix.

The brake lights on my
on real cars it is mounted to the arm which has the pedal on the end, however on a volvo it could be attached to the brake hydraulic system somewhere.
you are not going to get this part at a parts store. go to a volvo dealer parts desk and have them sell you a new switch and print you out the page of the "illustrated parts breakdown" where it can be found. that way you know where it is and how long it takes a tech to replace it. if it is operated by the brake fluid hydraulics you just may want to hang around and pay through the nose to have them install it instead of opening a pandora's box by doing it yourself.

1996 850 Turbo- Check engine
This code usually refers to the overdrive system. May not engage 4th gear. Have transmission checked by a specialist.

95 volvo 850 burning oil. no leaks. How do i check
Hi, I have a 1996 Volvo wagon 850 turbo. I just bought it and when you hold the rpm's at 3 and a half it was blowing out smoke after about 600 miles it stoped smelling like burning oil and doesn't blow out any smoke. But I use a court of oil in about every 150 miles. What could this be?
Thank's Jodie

Error Code P0302
1996 Volvo 850
Diagnostic Test Code (DTC) P0302 has a generic description of "Cylinder Misfire - Cylinder Number 2".
A misfire simply means that when it came time for that cylinder to fire, it missed its chance.
There are many things that can cause a misfire. Some of the things are listed below. Diagnostics should be performed to eliminate the possible causes so you don't spend a lot of money replacing parts trying to "guess" what is causing it.
These are just SOME of the possible causes:
> Spark plugs
> Ignition cables
> Ignition coil
> Distributor cap (if equipped)
> Fuel injector
> Fuel injector circuits
> Burned engine valves
> Blown head gasket
> Cracked cylinder head
> Piston damage
> Cylinder block damage
> Broken valve springs
> Damaged camshaft
> Vacuum leaks

Did a head gasket on
Hello and welcome to FixYa!
Is the car running before you did a head gasket replacement? I'm suspecting the rotor for it can be faulty. It's just so happen it die after the head gasket replacement. Does it even have a click? Hope to know more.
Thank you.

I just did a head gasket replacement went well
I think this is the right order for your car:
Plug order If you really do already have them in the right order, have you verified that you actually have spark? I've only done a couple head gasket jobs on other makes of cars and there always seems to be some electrical connector(s) that I missed when reassembling.
