Hello,

get a volvo mech to check your injection canister for carbon build up. its a 20 minute fix, that may be your problem
My 1991 Volvo 240 would shut off while driving,
Ermm...do take your car to a mechanic and check if the fuel pumps are runnin efficiently...lack of and inconsistent fuel supply to the engines may lead to your engine dying as you drive..i'm sure this is observed especially in cold mornings..i had that problem too but now after getting it replaced...its ok
How to remove ignition switch from 1991 volvo
you have to drill it,then use easyouts from below(it has 2x shearhead bolts that hold it in place, just take off the plastic cowel underneath to get to them they are brass coloured.once removed the whole unit can be replaced.
Locate o2 censor for replacement
There should not be problems. The only thing is some can be taken off with a 22mm wrench but then some have to be removed with a O2 socket, which is a regular socket that has a cut out down the side for the wire to slide in. This is the major problem. Other than that , you can do this within no time. Be sure the sensors have anti seize grease applied. Also, aftermarket is just a good sensor as the OEM.
Volvo 240se
On older types 240 there was some kind of antitheft system connected with the steering lock. Try to route a lead from the battery to the ignition coil and se if it starts.
I drove a 240 with a separate ignition switch all through high school.
MY 1991 VOLVO 240 WILL START,RUN FOR ABOUT 15
Try replacing the fuel filter and locate the fuel pressure regulator it should be located on the top of the motor at the area where the beginning fuel rail is, ( the fuel rail feeds the fuel injectors) if you notice the the pressure regulators vacuum hose is broken replace also if the pressure regulator appears to be wet with gas replace it. The fuel pump may be bad check for appropriate pressure at access valve on fuel rail it should be a minimum of 30 psi fuel pressure.
Brake Lights Come On With The Running Lites
With all of the lighting circuits going through the Lamp Outage Module (LOM) I
think replacing all the bulbs and insuring that they are the correct bulbs
would be a good first step. If the problem still occurs, then I would
have to suspect a bad LOM and a replacement would be needed. You can get a new one from a dealer or possibly a salvage yard near you by checking www.car-parts.com.
let me know if you have any further questions or need any more help
my best to you
Have 1987 Volvo wagon, changed out the bulbs in
sounds like the trunk light switch may have gotten knocked loose .. that would leave the trunk light on all the time and would run the battery down in a few days even if fully charged to start with .. you can take out the trunk light to test that theory .. the alternator will only put out what is needed and thats probably 30 amps with everything on .. to test its maximum capacity you need to hook up an external load and you have to run the engine at a specified RPM ... for a quick test.. if your alternator maintains about 13.2 volts at idle with everything turned on .. then its gererally working ok ..
Fuse keeps burning out
If fuses keep blowing, then there is a dead short somewhere,. My advice would be to go to an auto electrician. You did not mention for which circuit/s the fuses blow.
1991 volvo 240 leaks transmition fluid at a rate
Check your transmission line's, also look under your car if leaking between engine and transmission more then likely it's going to be your front transmission pump seal, transmission will have to come out to replace front seal.Don't let it run low on transmission fluid or you will have to replace or overhaul your transmission, not cheap.
