98 Grand Marquis intermittent no start/stalling

I have a 98 grand Marquis, that on occasion will not start, or stalls out. It will crank but not start, or just completely die and not start. If it sits for a couple hours it will restart just fine and run for a while without any problems. It has no fuel pressure on the occasions that it wouldnt start and I could actually check it out. I have replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and swapped relays, and it still stalls occasionally. Any common problems or areas you would recommend looking at?

Car will not unlock.

Car was locked with key fob button. Now will not unlock with either of the key fob buttons or the entry code on the door or the key itself. We can not get inside the car. The trunk will not open with the key fob button but will unlock with the key itself. i cannot program the key fob for the grand marquis i have several programming instructions from different companies. inside the door says it is 1997 the manual is for 1998 and the have tried instructions for 1999 marquis.

How do i program a new key fob for the car?

To get inside the car .... Use the key in the lock cylinder, unlock the drivers door to get inside. You shouldn't have to reprogram the fob unless it or the keyless module was changed. There may be a blown fuse that supplies the keyless control module (check the owners manual for location). or wires that lead into the Drivers door may be damaged ... The keyless module is located inside the drivers door at the bottom behind the door panel ... do the unlock/lock and trunk release switches on the inside of the drivers door operate the locks and or trunk release? If so it is not the fuse ... and not the wires to it ... And it could be your BCM body control module, located in the dash board to right of your gas petal. Because the number entry keypad (code for that is on the inside of the right passenger trunk bracket arm) also doesn't work I assume it's not the key fobs themselves. Your 98 manual is correct for your car.

while this occurs; do you hear clicking near your right foot area while sitting in the drivers seat? it may be heard very faint (you may have to remove the sound barrier panel under the dash first. Does this problem only happen with "Automatic" lights? Does it happen while in the parking lamps position? I wish to suggest the light switch itself, or the connector at that switch may be loose, or the negative supplying the switch could be loose. But more likely, you should check for a defective BCM, or loose connections to it, located between the lower left of the ash tray area and the accerator petal area (the relay inside on the circuit board may have a bad solder connection to it) ... or the relay inside is bad period.

Are you saying the temp blend door is not working?
If yes, it's the control head or the temp blend door motor on th plenum case under the dash. Buy used on ebay.

DO you have manaul or electroic controls?

If electronic

A/C Electronic Blend Door Actuator The A/C electronic blend door actuator is located on top of the A/C evaporator core housing (19A553) assembly.

  • Its function is to move the A/C air temperature control door on command from the control assembly.
  • The A/C electronic blend door actuator contains a reversible electric motor and a potentiometer. The potentiometer wiper is connected to the actuator output shaft and moves with the output shaft to indicate the position of the A/C air temperature control door.
  • A five volt signal is applied to the ends of the potentiometer. The voltage available at the wiper indicates the position of the potentiometer. The expressed value of the actuator wiper voltage is sent to the control module and matched with the wiper voltage of the module potentiometer. The printed circuit board then drives the actuator motor in whichever direction is necessary to make the actuator wiper voltage agree with the control module wiper voltage.

Either your heater control valve is not properly operating or your heater core is clogged. Locate the heater control valve under the hood, should be close to firewall on heater hose, have someone adjust temperature from hot to cold and see if you can see the heater control valve operating if so replace the heater core, if its not doing anything replace it(heater control valve).

1998 grand Marquis blows out Fuse 13. This shuts off power to the instrument cluster and shutting the Headlights, only when the Variable Control iss in the "Auto" position. In the "On " position the Head lights work. The fuse does not blow all the time but seems to blow occasionally but only at night, with the Head light dial in "Auto". I've replaced F!3 with a 20 Amp fuse, hoping it's only a surge that's blowing the fuse. Do you have a diagram of the Headlight Circuitry? Any other opinions or solutions?

(1998 Gr. Marquis) I just found the culprit of my fuse #13 for the speedo, temp and votage gages. I had to remove the gear shifter cover which was not difficult also the metal brace across the bottom and the ignition key, but it was a tiny exposed burr in the overdrive shift button wire just at the end of the gear shift leaver. I elec. taped it up and now, no more blown fuse!
