P1684 It is not a fault code per say, it only indicates the battery has been disconnected or went dead in the last 50 drive cycles I believe. P1683This code refers to the cruise control speed servo power circuit is open or shorted. The power comes through a normally-on contact in the brake light switch. Use a test light or voltmeter to measure the voltage on the yellow wire / red stripe on the switch. If it's there, measure on the dark blue wire / red stripe. Call the auto parts store and tell them you are doing that.
They can look it up on their computor with ac or without ac, and get the right belt.
Some vehilces don't have a listing for no ac and can't be bypassed.

It seems to me as though you have a fuel pump problem. Very common problem in these type vans. The fuel pump units on these come as an assembly inside the fuel tank. Might sound a bit silly to you but a lot of times you can take a hammer or something and tap the tank from under neith and it will start for a few minutes. As far as the security system a lot of them are designed to disable the vehicle from getting spark however some do disable the fuel pump as well but not after a few miles it will happen instantly. One possibility is that the speed sensor is going out. When that happens the computer gets bad information and thus makes bad decisions. When the car goes into 2nd all of the solenoids are actually off. That is so if there is some kind of problem the transmission gets no power, then it still has P, R, N, 2nd. It would be kind of weird, maybe, to see only the 1-2 shift being affected but I can't really think of anything else that could cause that kind of problem.

Remove either battery cable & then put it back See if that helps Keep in mind-- you will need to know if & how to do any relearns,trans & such, if you remove the battery from the system
