how do you set the timing on a 92 honda prelude

Hi there. Firstly you need a strobe light, I hope you have one of these. Firstly when the engine is stopped, you need to locate the timing marks on the crank pulley - they are a series of indentations on the crank pulley and you will see the pointer on the crank pulley cover. The largest indentation on the pulley is TDC (Top Dead Centre) and the three smaller indentations are your timing marks. When the engine is at normal operating temperture and idling, using the strobe light, the centre small timing mark should be aligned with the pointer on the crank pulley cover. If it's not aligned, loosen the distrubutor body and turn in the appropriate direction to either advance or ****** the ignition timing. Hope this helps, Scottech.

bottom radiator hose cold. upper radiator bulging.

Honda prelude 1992 h22a1 vtec import. bottom radiator hose cold. upper radiator bulging. Thermostat was renewed. Radiator new. Fan does not work on starting or running but works when aircon is on.

The fan won't come on because the thermoswitch is in the bottom of the radiator, without coolant flow the switch never gets hot. Just because a part is new doesn't mean it is good, is the thermostat an aftermarket part ? I would take out the thermostat (leave the gasket) and see if the bottom hose gets warm. If the bottom hose does not get warm, you may have a blockage or bad water pump

  1. Locate the service check connector and, if applicable, remove the cap. On 1988-91 Preludes, the cap is yellow and the connector is located next to the vacuum control box in the engine compartment. On 1992-95 Preludes, the service connector is located under the middle of the dash. On 1990-93 Accords, the connector is blue and is located behind the right front kick panel, under the dashboard. On 1994-95 Accords, the service connector is located behind the glove box. Use a jumper wire to connect the two terminals of the service connector.
  1. Following the manufacturers instructions, connect a timing light to the engine. The positive and negative leads connect to their corresponding battery terminals and the spark plug lead to No. 1 spark plug wire.
  2. Make sure that all wires are clear of the cooling fan and hot exhaust manifolds.
  3. Set the parking brake and block the front wheels. Start the engine. Check that the idle speed is set to specifications.
  4. Point the timing light at the timing marks. On all models except 1994-95 Accords, the marks are on the flywheel. On the 1994-95 Accords, the timing marks are on the crankshaft pulley. When the engine is idling, the red mark must align with the pointer. Some timing marks are indicated by 3 lines; the center one must be aligned with the pointer.

  1. If necessary to adjust the timing, loosen the distributor hold-down bolt(s) and/or nut and slowly rotate the distributor in the required direction while observing the timing marks.
  2. To complete the adjustment operation, tighten the hold-down bolt, taking care not to disturb the adjustment.
  3. Switch the engine OFF . Reinstall the rubber plug in the timing window and remove the timing light. Remove the jumper wire.

Push your driver side seat back and position yourself so your head is looking up underneath the stearing column (the top of your head should be pointing at the brake pedal).

Look just to your right of the stearing column, its up a far way. There will be a small grey box. If you've found it, now you need to remove it, which is just as difficult as finding it.
I believe there is some sort of clip mechanism that holds it there, you need something to push that clip in and the cartridge should slide off.

Now that you have it off you probably want to fix it, just clean it up and scratch off some of the corrosion on it and it works fine from then on.

The D4 light is a transmission code light for those cars probbly reading the speedometer going out and the check engine light the same. Have the codes checked or simply replace it. Here is one of many places to find it (just to give you a price range) http://www.bing.com/shopping/search?q=92%20prelude%20speedomotor&qpvt=92+prelude+speedomotor     best of luck

1992 Honda Prelude Timing Belt Diagram

Could you please let me know where I can find 1992 Honda Prelude Timing Belt Diagram on the internet..

There's no such thing as a timing belt diagram.

Do you mean to say the "Procedure" for changing a timing belt in a 92 Prelude?

By asking such a question I can only interpret it as a clear indication that you've never changed a timing belt before.

If this is true, then you don't want to start out or practice on your own car.

Get the car to a pro and have the job done right.

If not true (and you've changed timing belt's in the past)

Then give me the engine size and I'll post the:

"PROCEDURE" for changing the belt in a few hours.

H23 92 Prelude - Crank Pulley fell off

I didn't TORQUE the bolt over the crank pulley, and after two weeks of driving, my bolt, followed by crankshaft ;/ underdrive pulley fell off about 35-40 mph. The car died instantly, ran over the pulley, alternator belt was found a hundred feet back intact. Tried to start the car, and it would only spin really fast. towed it home. Upon pulling off the balancer pulley, I saw that the key had bent out, and crank key hole was opposite the balancer pulley.

What damage could I / did I do??? There appears to be no damage other than the missing pulley and bolt. Got a new pulley, key and bolt, about to put them on. Any ideas???

Make sure you check timing and the belt. if it spun don't risk putting it back on. Hope you got a new key. TIMING is important so you don't stick a valve through the top of your piston
