1993 Subaru Loyale Questions & Answers
I overheated my 93 Loyale
Crank angle sensor is usually on the flywheel. You should be able to see wiring and plug coming out of the bell housing. You can check it for continuity, or put a scope on it and look for pulses. I would not think it would be bothered by overheating .
Temp sensor is on the block - probably near the radiator hose. It's threaded into the block. Again, shouldn't have been affected by overheating.

Would a lack of oil cause my car to lose power
Low oil could definitely cause this trouble. When a vehicle gets low on oil, the friction increases and that causes the pistons to move slower. Slower moving pistons means lower rpms which in turn slows the vehicle. If this condition remains, the parts will not only wear prematurely, they will actually begin to weld themselves together. I would suggest you go to a local mechanic and have a compression test done. I hope it all turns out well for you.
Wont kick over
- Hi Mike, maybe something got stirred up and lodged in the fuel filter? Maybe the fuel pump finally went? Can you hear the relay click and/or the fuel pump run when you turn on the ignition? Maybe some critter gnawed it's way through a wire or two; they really seem to like our Loyales. I just had one do this because the battery connection was good enough, but then slipped away.
Broken latch cable for bonnet
you don't have many options right now, here is what you can try. if the cable broke on the dash end, try to removing the release latch from the dash and grab the remaining part of the cable with locking pliers.if the cable broke at the hood latch end. you will need to pry the latch open in the same direction that the cable release operates.this might be possible with a long flat screw driver with the grill in place. to accomplish this try finding photos of the latch online to see how the mechanism operates. there will be two levers one with the cable attached the other is the safety. the cable lever needs to be released for the hood to open
1993 subaru loyale wagon hood release assembly has come loose
I just helped my brother get into the engine compartment of is 1996 or 1997 Loyale when his cable broke. I used a loop of hanger wire, bent it in half then bent the loop so there was a kink in it about 45 degrees at about 2 inches from the end. I was able to go to the back of the latch (closest to the engine) and with a couple of false starts I was finally able to grab the latch that held the hood fast. I had him put a bit of pressure on the hood to release the tension. When I thought I had it, I could hear the spring, I had him release his hold and pull up on the hood. I came up to the second latch down and we were in. I used the coat hanger to make a temporary pulling device to use at the grill.
