What does a fuel pump relay look like for a 90 Subaru Loyale wagon, and how do you know if one is defective?

Check the fuse/relay box located on the left side of the dash. You have to open the door first and you should see a small removeable panel. On the back side of the panel is a diagram of which component you are looking for. You can swap out similar relays to test them if you wish. They are not that expensive either.

I put in a used engine from another subaru loyale

I am not 100% sure but you may have a bad cam or crank sensor. Now whether this car has those parts or not, you can find out from your local parts distributor or you can go online. Do you have a check engine light on?Good Luck Friend.

I have a 92 Subaru Loyale 4 Door that purred like

Check for bad / cracked / hardened vacuum hoses, especially to the PCV valve (which is pretty cheap to replace). Also, check the EGR valve, to see it is working. There is also the possibility of low fuel pressure or low fuel volume due to a failing fuel pump, fuel pump relay (if equipped), or a clogged or clogging fuel filter. I should have mentioned to check the fuel to see if it might be contaminated with water. Have you checked to see if the coolant (antifreeze) is low, or if the oil looks like a chocolate shake? That can happen if coolant is leaking into the oil via a failing head gasket or cracked water jacket!

Need help with power window issues.

I'm thinking this is a broken wire issue to the rear. Pull the switches out in the rear and check for good powers and grounds. As far as the slow window operation.. that is just a window motor that is near its end.

My 1992 Subaru Loyal 4 door sedan has 2 belts one goes to the alternator. How do you tighten the other one? Belt screeches badly.

the other belt probably goes to the air condition compressor, power steering and water pump. There will be probably an adjustable idler pulley that the belt runs around. adjust that pulley or if you are not familiar with the procedure then take it to an accredited shop that will do it for you

92 subaru loyale new distributor and coil still no spark

Had the exact same problem and went through the whole dance. Traced problem to relay under the dash , combination ignition/fuel pump relay. The relay was "clicking" but was internally bad, it would not engage circuit for the ignition. Power was indicated at coil and fuel pump would run but the circuit was not complete through the computer to power the ignition sensor in the distributor. I actually had to "gang" 2- 12 vdc coil automotive relays to replace the original relay. Caution... if you decide to gang 2 relays be sure to separate the two circuits, one relay for ignition, one for fuel pump and tie the coil wires together.

92 subaru loyal wont turn over and makes humming nouise in cab

If the starter does not engage you will hear the "growling" in the cab which is usually the fuel pump and is a normal noise, more apparent because of the lack of engine noise. First thing to check is the wiring to the starter under the hood. If it is ok could be contacts in the starter solenoid , starter brushes or a"dead" starter. I would try tapping the starter with a SMALL hammer or the end of a I/2 inch breaker bar while having an assistant turn the key to attempt starting. Stand on driver's side, If spare is mounted under hood, remove spare. The starter is visible and can be tapped from there.

Can this car be towed with a car dolly? will the rear wheels 'freewheel', or do they need to be disengaged somehow?

most cars can be towed short distances(around 25-30 miles without damage in an emergency..but if the car is towed across country and it is all wheel drive, you need to put the entire car on a flatbed trailer..u-haul rents them..and they require a frame hitch to pull it..usually a stout truck or you can also rent one of their trucks to pull the trailer..

Taillights not working when turned on

I suspect that daytime switch is messing up, one way or another. It could ( considering the vehicles' age ) be corroded - or just worn out. It would be easy to cause other major issues if you tried to repair that switch - but I'm sure you don't want to just throw parts at it until it works right either ( that could get expensive) !However, cleaning the connection points wouldn't hurt either. get some electrical parts spray and Dielectric grease from your local supply house.Disconnect the battery negative.unplug the daytime switch.Inspect the terminals in the plug and switch, looking for rusty or contaminated contacts. If there's heavy deposits on either, use a small flat bladed screwdriver to scrape off the bulk of the ugly, then spray liberally with the parts spray, making sure you wrap rags around anything near your work space and putting rags underneath to catch the runoff.Give it about a half hour to dry thoroughly and apply a SMALL amount of the Dielectric to the inside of the harness.Reconnect the harness and the battery and test.If the lights still don't work, you may need to use a continuity tester to check the functions of the switch - if faulty, replace.Bypassing the switch shouldn't be an option as you just can't know what would be affected by doing so -and you could cause a much more serious problem!!Hope this helps and thanks for using Fixya!!
