I need to be able to display read and clear codes on my 91 4WD Subaru Legacy Station Wagon. I only have a Chilton 1985-96 Subaru Manuel. It doesn't show where or how to get the codes to display. I need Diagrams of where the connector is and a diagram of what pins to jump to display or clear codes. All it says are that codes are displayed by the MIL and I don't even know what that abreviation means. I'm willing to learn I just don't know where to get the information. Please Help, John
the following link has detailed instructions and a chart explaining the different codes. http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html just so you know - you may have to do a little digging to get to those connectors - mine were taped up tight to the harness - had never been used before. Good luck and any further questions have probably already been asked and answered here: www.ultimatesubaru.org Great people that love Subaru's...

Engine fires up straight away and runs fine, however, after a short drive it loses power rapidly and idles really rough to the point where it seems as though the motor might jump out from the engine bay. Have tried everything I can fuel system, coils, spark plugs. Is it in the turbo or maybe head gaskets? Also rattles while running to the point that its embarassing. Have tried running a multi grade oil but still hasnt fixed the issue. Are the issues maybe related? Car is a 1992 2ltr turbo 4wd legacy. Please help Car drives fine cruising at 80km but when i try to give it a little more gas it wont pick up speed, also if im going up a hill i cant get any more power out of it, when i pull over after the hill it idles really rough like the motors going to fall through the engine bay. After waiting for a couple of minutes it is ok again - untill the next big hill.

hey every one... i have a 91 subaru legacy L AWD. I have been having problems with a grinding sound on the front passenger side. i can feel it in the floor at all times the car is moving and seems to match the rotation of the wheels. also makes the spedometer go up and down bout an eigth of an inch. mechanic told me to try replacing ball joint... did and little effect its still there also replaced cv axle cut the noise in half but still there. is it a differential problem? any help would be much appreciated.
Check wheel bearing.
Check backing brake plate , sometimes it's bended and touching brake rotor.
If wheel bearing is bad , you may have same effect with backing plate , brake rotor touch backing plate.

"stop lamp" indicator light stays on whenever the car is running. It has plenty of brake fluid and the brakes seem OK. Any idea why the warning light stays on? (this is not the parking brake inicator)
Your brake light is out.
Check brake lights and repl. burnt light bulb .

where is the subaru Legacy 1991 diagnostic plug?
It will depend on whether yours is an OBD system or not. OBD (On Board Diagnostics), didn't start to become a legal requirement until 1996 but some companies were fitting them earlier than that. First check your steering column for the green style connector on the attached image. If there is none like that, use a torch and get your head into the Driver's side footwell. Your looking for the black style connector, (red circle), on the attached image. It will be at about the height of the driver's knees at the door side. They are sometimes tucked up under the dashboard, out of sight, possibly behind a small flap or cover.
I hope this helps.

Where is the fuel relays on a 1991 Subaru legacy 2.2 l turbo located at
its behind the dash and its circular in shape. its hard to reach even with the lower panel removed but with a long flat screwdriver the bracket that mounts it can be popped open to gain access.
the clip/bracket is circular and has a tab that opens up
first link is for the legacy and the second shows the white clip
