Been having a problem starting

When you bought the distributor, did it come with a Stator or did you reuse the old one? Also, there is some special Heat Sink compound that has to go on the flat-side of the Module before you attach it to the Distributor.

The parts inside the Module depend on the Heat Sink compound to endure the engine heat and to operate the internal parts. I found another owner with a similar problem that was cured by replacing the Stator. He lost spark intermittently too!

There are operating routines that change with Temperature. The cold start routine increases the idle and enriches the fuel mix until it gets the signal that your engine is warm. It really means part of the computer will work until it switches to another part that doesn't.

I understand that Advance Autoparts has a machine to test the Module. They may be able to test your Stator too, as they connect together on the Distributor. The TPS is an important part because it takes place of the Accelerator pedal.

You do have an Inertia relay which kills the fuelpump you have to make sure while you are working on a spark problem, a fuel problem does not creep in and shut you down.

Would like to know how you make out on this. Also there were Turbocharged models that used different parts. Make sure your parts guy knows what you have.

When I drive with the headlights on the voltage

Battery is probably bad, has a weak cell. It may show full charge, but has no reserve capacity.
Also, even though terminal not loose there may be corrosion under terminals. Loosen and clean with wire brush and re-tighten terminal. Check for loose wires on back of alternator and at starter motor.

I need to know how

This fuel injected motor shouldn't need the fuel system purged.
So the engine hits occasionally?
Did this car EVER run for YOU?
A common problem with 1991 Capris is the timing belt gear will slip around due to damage to the keyway in the end of the crank shaft. Timing gets off, and the motor won't start. A quick way to check this would be to rotate the distributer (after marking its current position) and see if the car will try to start better. If so, then there is damage to the crankshaft that is almost impossible to repair, short of a new crank shaft. Some folks claim to have repaired it, I don't know about that.

Where is the fuel pump located and how much $ to

On-line manual is at techcapri.com.
The fuel pump is under the rear seat, on top of the fuel tank. Its pretty easy to remove with common hand tools. New one would be $50 to $100, try a U PICK IT junk yard replacement first, that way you can learn how to get one out, or decide its too big a hassle and get someone else to do it for you...

How to lower the roof

The problem is that one of the top frames gets out of place, and gets in the way of closing. Try getting the top as closed as you can, lift it about 1 foot, move the top frame towards the back of the car, repositioning it. The top should then just fall into the storage area. Make sure that the rear of the top lines up with those little arrows at the bottom of the top storage area.Once you get the hang of it its a piece of cake!

I have a small coolant hose that has a leak in it.

Go to a dealer and ask the parts guy to show you an illustrated parts breakdown on the car. They do this if you are courteous and patient. Then you will know the name of the part, the manufacturer's part number, dealer price, and how long it takes a mechanic to replace one. Then go buy the part at a part store, do not be surprised if you have to order it and wait a bit. Odd ball parts like that generally are not hanging on the walls. If you plan on keeping the car you may want to search on ebay for a service manual and parts breakdown on CD for the car. You can generally find both for less than the price of a tank of gas,

I have 1991 mercury capri.

The fan is operated by a relay under the hood. Your owners manual will have a diagram of which relay it is. As far as the dash lights and park lights goes. The actual headlight switch is usually the cause for them not to come on. If your fuses are good the headlight switch will need replaced.
